Sounds like trying to avoid jail time.

A good few months being banged up, might..just might give him a sense of his actions having rather unpleasant consequences.
Jail time for what? What criminal laws have been broken?

Sounds like there is a bandwaggon to be jumped on!

No harm in expressing outrage. I expect it will be a slap on the wrist, if that. The racers loss of money, time and effort and race ruined will be blamed elsewhere and this person will be a legend in his own mind (and those of his close group of chums). It will only serve to enforce others of his ilk that they are invincible and that the world actually cares about their sad lives.

Hasn't this already been covered in the thread? False imprisonment and aggravated trespass.

Ever since the Mansell mania track invasion days Formula 1 fans at Silverstone are reminded, in the dying laps of the race, if they invade the track they will be prosecuted over both the PA and on the screens. I cant see this been an empty threat that's lasted over 20 years. Surely he would fall foul of the same laws, trespass I'm guessing.

The police, with the imprisonment angle, have just gone for the biggest bang for their buck and hope it sticks.

Much as it pains me I very much doubt that he will get any custodial sentencing. I hope the rumours of payment from the press are wrong. He should be punished severely. I regret to say he may well not be.

Why hold him any further aloft? If your plan is to point at his facebook page and band-wagon mates with outrage, how is your facebook page more credible? You've taken a moral issue and made it a straight out fight for social networking 'likes'. Which you wont win by virtue of the demographic on the your chosen medium.

Making another page for this mouth-breathing product of the social networking age, is the modern day equivalent of throwing Brer rabbit in the briar patch.

Own goal chaps.

I would probably agree, were it not for the fact that Master Cottle's original page has been edited with the majority of any negative responses removed. Any future comments have to be OK'd by Master Cottle and the whole page now seems to support and encourage his actions at Brands. At least a page over which he has no control, will afford people with a brain an opportunity to air their opinions. It may also serve to remind people of the financial loss the competitors incurred as the YOLO crowd move on to something shiny.

I understand the theory, "no such thing as bad advertising" and making this guy more of a "legend" but that's not the point. The point was to show support against all that the fool stands for, the daily rags have promoted this lad's status, I'm sure to all his cavy mates, that was always going to happen. The fact they paid him for this needs to be made public, and like any petition, this will be shown to the powers that be, that the vast majority feel this is unacceptable and we will endeavour to claw back whatever we can to cover some of the costs this idiot has caused to all involved.

Are we certain of that though? I very much doubt he got paid a penny. He may well have told his clueless idiot pals he was paid, but why would they give cash for info already in the public domain?

To some extent maybe. But aren't you just preaching to the choir by having a support site with a load of comments from supporters? I can see the case for taking a stand against him and his attitude, I just think doing it from the platform of FB undermines your case and adds to his.

Having said that, I don't have a better idea that hasn't already been mentioned.

Haha, yes all very contentious!!!
Truth is there really is no right answer is there. We just felt the need to allow people the chance to express their view in a very rudimentary way.

Publications routinely pay to publish something direct from the horses mouth. It shouldn't be a surprise if one has paid this chap to have such access.

He's just been charged by Kent Police - http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-28850256

An East Sussex man who allegedly drove his girlfriend's car on to the Brands Hatch circuit during a race has been charged with causing a public nuisance.

Jack Cottle was arrested after footage was posted on YouTube of a VW Polo being driven into a Fun Cup race in June on the track in Kent.

The 21-year-old, of Durgates, Wadhurst, is due to appear before magistrates in Sevenoaks on 22 September.

Kent Police charged him after he answered bail on Monday.

Public nuisance? Whats the max penalty? Sounds minor sadly

I heard a rumour of the race teams taking him to court to claim costs of around £4k ea, has anything come of this, I think a PH'er was one of the drivers involved??

If he gets charged on the offence, can the teams still sue him?

case law here suggests jail a distinct possibility?
