Quite. So what he did was a bit dangerous and stupid and he's a tit but jail time, really? The drug dealer who beat a friend of mine unconscious in a completely unprovoked attack got a suspended sentence. He should definitely go down for wearing that fvcking suit though.

Let's not exaggerate the situation.
How on earth can you interpret what he did as anything other than endangering lives!?

I agree, motorsport isn't risk-free at any point - racers die, marshalls die, spectators die, trackdayers die; throw an oblivious, apathetic idiot into the mix who no one else is expecting and the risk has immediately skyrocketed. There's a reason everyone going on a racetrack has a briefing before they start.

That's a general problem though. Personally I'd remove 10% of any future earnings via the tax system, or reduce his benefits by 10% until the cost of his stay(s) was paid off/he met his demise.

But according to one armed lesbian trombonist labour supporting guardian reading yoghurt weavers, that'd make me a bad person.

I'm sure the father of the terrified female passenger wishes it was life.

Aw the poor lamb.... he will be out in 1 with a ankle tag on...

I take it the sentence has nothing to do with the going on the track though? More likely the false imprisonment of the passengers?

There are far worse crimes that get so little in the way of punishment that this seems harsh.

He was a being a dick and deserved to be punished, but jail seems a waste of time and money. A ban or large fine would have been sensible.

Because all he did was drive a car round a track at a relative low speed?

I think that the sentence reflects the real concern that no one repeats this criminal, act. Sadly if nothing effectively was done then other idiots might fancy the few moments of notoriety that this has produced. Regrettably there are such idiots about. I think this was an entirely proper sentence reflecting the need to ensure that such acts are not repeated. I do hope it has that effect.

Tell you what Greg. If you sit in the rear of a Polo doing 10 mph wearing just casual clothes. And we fire a race car (complete with hot engine and full of fuel) into the back of it at 90 mph. You'd be 100% confident you'd see the following day would you?

I would also have banned him from driving for life.
