This bellend was completely typical of the 'no regrets' having a 'laff' YOLO 'Dapper' fking stupid haircut Oi Oi! generation, and really needed to be made an example of in my opinion.

he got a very light sentence imo for endangering his passengers lives so recklessly
was it really that dangerous? safer than your average tourist day at the ring.
Exactly. See more dangerous driving on the motorway on average 2 or 3 times a week.
Exactly.

Don't get me wrong - the kid is a completely idiot. But I don't think prison is the right place for him. Community service would have been a better punishment IMO.

Because all he did was drive a car round a track at a relative low speed?
Tell you what Greg. If you sit in the rear of a Polo doing 10 mph wearing just casual clothes. And we fire a race car (complete with hot engine and full of fuel) into the back of it at 90 mph. You'd be 100% confident you'd see the following day would you?
I think gregf40 must be another of the YOLO brigade. Perhaps he's not too fussed about tomorrow?
I must have missed the part where the kid going on the track caused all the racing drivers to lose their eyesight?

No one went in to the back of him because professional racing drivers would have seen him from a mile away.

Are you familiar with Brands?

I'd watch the video again, Paddock could have been a disaster if someone had come through there full chat and they wouldn't have been able to see him until very late if at all.

Fair enough.

I just don't think prison is the right place for idiots. It is a place for criminals - and IMO I don't think this lad is a criminal based on what he did. Just a bell end. biggrin

EDIT: Maybe the judge should have sentenced him to be cast on The Only Way Is Essex?

Eight months inside seems way over the top to me. Of course he was a giant c0ck, but in "cause celebres" like this the sentence always seems more to do with satisfying public outrage than proper justice.

I can see what people are saying about Burglars seemingly getting less etc and it maybe seeming a bit harsh. I suspect a lot of it is to do with the conversations that will happen in Wetherspoons

Convo A "E're mate you see that legend Jack Cottle, raced his polo on a track, funny as fk, bare banter innit and only got tagged up, shall we try it at Castle Combe?"

Convo B "E're mate, gotta feel sorry for that Jack Cottle Lad, 8 months inside for what e done, was only a larf, I fancied a crack but fk prison"

Is it a bit harsh that Jack Cottle is having an example made of him to get this lesson out there? Potentially. Do I care? Nope! Can't do the time, don't do the crime.

If it is so dangerous the tracks should surely have better security to stop someone just driving on though?

I just don't understand how it could be possible to drive onto a race track during a race.

Said it in the other thread. Yes, a bell end but now he's going to be worthless, even more than he was. No job prospects and the chance that he'll come out of prison with a few more ideas.

It's a waste.

As for Brands, the security was shocking.

The kid is no doubt an absolute idiot, but that has ruined his life for something as juvenile as that.

Community service would have been a far better sentence. As others have also said, there are worst crimes with lesser sentences.

The problem is security only works when every dumb option is covered. Nobody in their right mind should have attempted this.

I can't remember it being that slack in BSB, but this doesn't appear to have been controlled well and IIRC was a 4hr race drawing to a close?

I would however have jailed him for the fact that he took his girfriend against her will onto the track and risked her life and limb without her permission.
So exactly what he has been jailed for. That Greg doesn't think warranted it. But you defend Greg's position.

That's certainly an interesting take on the subject. But I'm not sure I understand.
errum.

Did he risk the life and limb of the other race drivers - NO
Is he an antisocial git - YES
Should he risk his girlfiends safety without her permission - NO

Jail for two or three but don't get hysterical about point one which was gregs position. I thought that was pretty clear?
Nope Gregs position was "Because all he did was drive a car round a track at a relative low speed?" And that that wasn't a real problem because it didn't endanger anybody. (Slow is safe init)

But as you point out. He put the girlfriend in danger.

Either he endangered life (what he got locked up for). Or he didn't. If he did, (and you say he did), then you can't also support the position that because he was going slowing nobody was in danger.

Its easy,
You just ignore everything that says NOT to do it and do it anyway.

It works better, if:

Nobody else is dumb enough to consider it.
Nobody has ever been dumb enough to attempt it before.
You ignore any signs about restricted entry to the pit lane.
You fail to read the small print associated with any tickets you bought.
You laugh and think its funny on youtube.
You know that some bleeding heart will always try to deflect the balame from you by blaming everybody/anybody else for daring treating you like an adult.

For me it was his dog st attitude afterwards that got a lot of peoples back up. And I'm glad he got 8 months. Far too lenient a sentence though. Where's the damages pay out to the organisers?

Completely agree, particularly about the damages.

For DAYS afterwards he was on Facebook shouting it from the rooftops, and abusing anybody with a contrary position.

Remember the "A fk has not been given" comment? This was AFTER his arrest.

I wonder if one was given when he was charged?
I wonder if one was given when he received his court date?

I suspect one will be given (and received) during the next few weeks.

let's be honest though - job-wise he was never likely to be challenging for anything remotely intellectually demanding was he?

corr! stiff sentence indeed!
I would have thought a 2 year driving ban and a fine. if only sentencing for more serious crimes were dealt with accordingly as well

That was Brilliant. Love it. That may be the only chance that guy ever gets to run a lap of Brands Hatch. Hats off to him. He had the balls to go and do it. (Cue...heath and safety scaremongers)
Good on ya fella. I laughed and laughed and wished it was me.
Now take your punisment and live your life in a straight-jacket. Just like they want us all to.
. Probably upset all the rich boy racers with their 30-grand cars. But you done em. Didn't even get overtaken.

Above just one of the 'positive' you tube posts from the type of cretin that exists that we might be unlucky enough too encounter, Silly cottle has to be made an example of to try and deter others.

Also did you hear le comment on the bike rider in the pits & person who walked across him, obviously everyone else is stupid except him.

1:02 in the video as he is at the end of the rear of the pits to turn onto the track there is a marshall as the camara is lowered from view, soppy tart does say ''watch out watch out he's saying something to you'', pit lane exit I think you briefly see a marshal raise a hand to stop the car. 2:19 His bint does also go for the steering wheel on the way up to druids and he is slapping her hands away. and still people disregard what could of gone wrong. rolleyes
