So, you're saying they were never intended to be used frequently on the road. If that's the case then they shouldn't be compared to the SEAT which is very much an everyday car. Can't have it both ways.
I don't know why I dignify the retarded with replies but here you go....

Can you use one every day? Yes of course why not? Do I use my mini GP (£28.5k in case you're wondering wink ) every day? Yes. Did I use my R26.R every day? No, although I covered 16k miles in it's first year doing track days & eurohoons, I simply had other vehicles to use & didn't fancy putting it through the daily grind.

Now, where have I said that the Renault can't be used frequently on the road?

They are importing 30 to the uk.

Some might be garage queens
Some might be track only cars
Some might be used daily
Some might even be converted into pick up trucks got all I or the general public will care

They are only importing 30!

Why on earth this pisses you off when the vast populace of the United Kingdom will know absolutely nothing about te at is beyond me confused

The price of a limited run should really not upset your morals. I simply can't understand, in the sea of boring, one size fits all ste that is up for sale in today's market you can hate a manufacturer for making something so left field in interesting.

It would be like moaning that your old civic type R had a crap engine because it needed revs & was crap at motorway speeds.

It does seem very odd to be offended by its existence. I don't personally see any appeal in the thing, but I'm still glad such cars exist. More choice is never a bad thing.

Is it really the speed that matters? I have a Megane 250 Cup and a Caterham. Both are fantastic, but the Caterham, while probably slower than the Megane over a lap is still the one I choose to drive on trackdays - both the fun and the obvious consumables cost.

I was only suggesting an alternative RWD sports car for the same price smile. I think this new Megane is fantastic, props to Renault for making it, even though everyone said it would never happen!
I agree that if it's a track car you want then something cheaper, lighter and RWD will do the job better. Some people like me like FWD because it's more forgiving of mistakes but I wouldn't take a new car on a race track even if it was insured I'd buy a battered old Mx-5 or BMW like everybody else does and get coilovers, etc.

I looked at this great video the other day of some bloke in a US 'spec racer' going from 25th to 1st in one race and thought 'that looks fun it's like a big go-kart':
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEyTW4D8vRg
I'm quite jealous of how much fun that guy looks like he's having. biggrin

I'll have to start my own appeal:
This man is unhappy and unwell.
He has the sickening feeling of jealousy that comes from watching an epic racing video.
The only cure is many hours drive away and even when he gets there, he sometimes (always biggrin) can't afford the help he so desperately needs. Help him to help himself race with those more fortunate.
For just £2000 a month you could help a petrolhead like him get his own racing car with everything he needs to support himself. Even some overalls so he's never freezing cold.
Please help. Call 1234567890 to help him get rid of this feeling once, and for all.
biggrin

I don't give a hoot how quick it is. It's 37k for a Renault....
Almost ridiculously priced as a Fiat 500 Abarth esseesse "Ferrari" limited edition.

I'm a massive VAG fan (snigger).

But if you're into driving quickly, pick a French car.

One other thing. With other base models you actually get a car that is more premium than the price suggests. A boggo 3 series has the same soft touch plastics and general feel of quality as models further up the range. The boggo Megane feels crap to begin with. Jazz it up into arguably the best hot hatch (the standard Renaultsport) and you can look beyond the lack of quality because it drives so well. But to then jazz it up again with changes that will make next to no difference in day to day driving and think you can squeeze another £15k out of buyers is....well....it makes my blood boil.

Bring back my old Civic Type R. £16895 on the road with an engine and gearbox to die for. All the car I ever needed.
Yes but that had an interior made out of recycled coke bottles and a generation older (so will have a much lower sticker price). Look how much a diesel Civic costs nowadays. Thats 30k without trying too hard. The new CTR will easily be over 30k without trying.

Small performance hatches are in the ballpark of 19-20k now (mind the new Clio is the same length of the EP CTR) Cheapest C segment hot hatch is the Focus and is 23-25k with no fancy bits. Astra is the best part of nearly 30k with diffs etc and the Golf R is 30k with no options. You need to get over it cars are expensive nowadays.

The Megane is a limited edition with lots of expensive trick bits so I dont think the price is too stupid. Not for me but I'm not upset about it.

About the same as the Leon IMO.
Slower than the Leon as it will not have the trick diff or MQB suspension setup. It is just a power boost of the previous gen.

Who pays £80k or whatever for a Nissan?

A couple of things I fail to see in this thread.

1) it is a very limited edition (there will be more P1s in existence)with expensive parts bolted on, so it ain't gonna be cheap. The fact it has a Renault badge on means sweet FA, if you want something with this spec you have to pay for it

2) why the hell people are having a downer on it is beyond me. Isn't it a good thing that some companies are still making these types of cars? Or do people just like the monotone of 99% of the stuff on the road. Isn't this pistonheads?

I'll hold my hands up and say I'm a Renault fan, but it's because every now and them they let the engineers go a little crazy to make something spectacular. But I also love other manufacturers that do crazy things that I can't imagine most other people would start an actual argument over. Who hates the AMG black series range? Why would you get a C63 Black when the C63 does nearly as much for a hell of a lot less? Why did anyone pay double the M3 base price for a GTS?

Let's applaud companies that do things like this instead of moaning/arguing/crying etc

We hired RSR's Megane R26R a few years back to drive the ring. What a car!!!

I can't rave about it enough. It was so forgiving and fast. My brother, who had never been to the 'ring, set a second lap time of 8.55 verified by the data logger we took along. He's of average ability but that car really flattered.

The next day we went to Spa, this time with RSR's Lotus Exige. In comparison the car was a disapointment. We missed that R26R.

If I was back in the UK I would buy this new 275R straight away. Sadly here in Oz we'll never see it...

Did Renault publish torsional stiffness figures for the old R26.R? I'm intrigued to know how much (if at all) replacing the rear seats with a 'cage actually helped the handling.
there is NO torsional stifness gain with the rear bolt in cage...

I guess what people are whinging about is the fact that Renault have gone and done exactly what Seat did, except they have been "honest" about it. This car will be amazing, but then we can't just ignore the Seat's time. Obviously we don't know the extent of the modifications to the Seat, but it seems that it offers exceptional value for money if you have to spec a £40K Renault to beat it properly.

Nobody is going to buy this car in exactly the same spec as the car that did that lap time - I bet every car sold will have AC for example. How is that different from Seat removing the AC to achieve their lap time, whilst knowing full well that every car they sell will be be sold with AC. Renault have been very cunning with what they have done. I bet Seat are kicking themselves for not doing a limited production run of 'ring spec cars too.

Massive Mégane RS fan, and it looks like the Renault Sport boys still know what they're doing.
Let's just hope they won't mess up the next gen car like they did with the Clio...
