The difference is SEAT had a full retail interior. In fact everything on the SEAT car has come from the main production line. Furthermore SEAT have said they will be releasing the performance pack so why the negativity? At the end of the day its brakes, wheels and tyres, not an out of the norm upgrade seeing at majority of the manufacturers out there do this.

(...)
If SEAT will be releasing the pack, why didn't they wait with the time until it's available? They wanted to shove cars out asap - but people driven to purchase by the published lap time wouldn't be actually buying the car they thought they were. Whether they'd notice the difference (probably not) isn't relevant - SEAT were deceptive in their approach and that's a big no-no.

As soon as you remove the rear seats from a hot hatch, it becomes pointless.

I bought an R26.R when they were new & it was one of the best cars I've ever owned & driven.

If I get the chance, I'm going down to my local dealer to have a word today smile

This.

1975 VW Polo 1.3 unladen weight : 685kg.

What would you have to do to this Renault to get it down to under 800kg?

Replace all glass with thinner glass / perspex? 50kg?
Remove all double skinned doors / body panels / sills? 100kg?
Remove all kit required to meet emission regulations? 50kg?
Remove all sound deadening? 75kg?
Remove all air bags? 75kg?
Remove all unnecessary inside and outside trim, chrome, extra lights? 50kg?

If my guesses are anywhere near right, that's shed 400kg, still 880kg weight.

And after loosing that lot, the 1975 Polo would have a higher spec interior!

Yes definitely. I always promised myself if they built another I'd get one, so I'm seriously interested-preferably in French racing blue with red wheels like my last biggrin

I'm a little disappointed there's no roll cage this time & they seem to have gone with leather for the seats but the cabin adjustable suspension sounds great.

I do wonder how much it's going to list at with the nurburgring spec though!

Fair enough. The Renault is hardly a hot hatch tho is it? Maybe a 2 seater sports car?
The lines are pretty blurred I'd agree.

I'd rather a lightweight sports car over a stripped out hatch, but each to their own. The Megane is probably easier to drive quickly than a RWD sports car of similar power. I'd be more interested in the normal 275 Trophy with the rear seats and practicality to be honest.

Great time, but hideous to look at.

I'm sure its a hoot to drive round a track, but couldn't face walking back to that in a car park.

Am I massively out of touch with car prices now or something? £47k on a Golf seems a little ridiculous when you consider the nearly new / ex demo market at that price includes things like the C63 AMG and the Jaguar XKR..
To be fair it looks like he's specced everything from a bike rack and roof box to a safety kit, plus service plans etc etc. The base price of a Golf R is £29900 and it's daft judging it on anything other than that.

in various markets SEAT is marketing the cupra as "fastest FWD in the world" without actually providing any proof whatsoever of it's numbers, let alone the real spec of the car. Subru did something similar with tommi makinen and STI by making a car put togeather from various japanese market and STI homologation parts... and did a "record run". At least that time we had a video... So, I am calling SEAT liers. In all relevant tests, normal megane 265 is faster on the track than a stock cupra

Renault, on the other hand, made the R,provided a full spec, did the record, and you can actually buy it. Kudos to that...

And your Polo would also be a hell of a lot slower!

You do realise this is a road legal car so has to have airbags and meet emission regs?

"Trophy-R costs - wait for it - £36,430 and just 30 of the 250 to be built will make it to the UK. You can speculate on the full Nurburgring Pack price with the fancy battery and brakes and it doesn't take much imagination to come up with a figure starting with a '4"

I know... I mean, how are you mean to get your 3 chav mates in the back of your megane without rear seats? [jokes biggrin]

They should take the Leon Cup Racer round the Nurburgring for a shot... you can definitely buy that car (albeit for £70-80k or whatever they were charging)

Why? I've been driving hatchbacks for most of my motoring life - pretty safe to say the number of times I've been in need of more rear space (or a more practical layout) outnumbers those when I've needed the two/three additional seats.

Internet arguing aside, because you can't call foul on rules where there's no official rules set out...

If you can go into a dealer and order one of those cars, no matter how much of the interior or A/C is or isn't there, then it's a production car. Fastest production car wins. Fin.

You can't knock Renault for taking a car with 4-5 year old technology/platform and beating something cutting edge. It even has one of those silly old manual gearboxes!
