In a position to purchase a toy, need something that I can go do track days in that I can drive to the circuit in, hoon around all day and drive back...

Have driven an Atom and really liked the feel of it, wasn't easy to drive quickly (for me) but I like to think I can pedal a little bit and would be nice to have something I could learn more in.

Looked at Lotus 211 but they don't make them any more and it looks very low / speed bump issues?

Never been a fan of the Caterham to own though appreciate how incredible they are Mrs veto'd this anyway...

Is there anything around the 30-40k barrier that should be considered as a mid life crisis track toy?

Ginetta G40R maybe?

Or perhaps a kit car like the Fisher Fury (which you can get factory built).

Atom is top of the list at the moment and has not been veto'd, would be the 245bhp version to begin with if I went for it though.

If I were in your position I'd get a KTM X-Bow, only because I like the styling though and they're rarer than Atom's.

thought about the xbow but they look more expensive and difficult to support/work on... plus there doesn't seem to be one to test drive anywhere.

Yep, I think that's a perk of a rare car, you really only get to test drive the car you'r looking to buy and there aren't many around at all. But to be fair, if you're after a track toy, the oppotunities to really test it are few and far between I'd have thought.

That is a fair point, can only really go off internet reviews of the others, I do quite like the marmite styling of it but I think i would be waiting for it to transform and walk off...

doesnt look like you can even do an experience day in one easily.

Mike - great post, checking those out now.

Ha-ha, I think that's why I like them so much!!

Actually, following on from Mike above, there was a bloke at a Goodwood track day I did on 31st May who had a Series 3 Exige V6, it was bloody gorgeous!! Can't remember how much he said it was though.

Scratch that, just checked Exige S3 prices and they're way over budget. frown

that really is an interesting option... depends how reliable it would be, those engine do seem reliable if looked after well and it looks gorgeous in a focused sort of way.

Looks good, not sure on your time-scale to buy and the actual release date for the E10 though.

"softer" option than some of the suggestions, but a 3.4 Boxster or Cayman would be great fun on the track and a very nice way to get there and back keeping your other half happy?

the 211 does go over speed bumps. You just need to wear a helmet all the time though which makes you look a bit of prick when stuck in traffic smile
