Hi! IM looking at a 1984 3.2 Carrera which has recently had a full rebuild with Top end heads etc - but the seller ( who seems like an honest chap btw)
tells me there is a little leakage which according to him might be because of the fully synthetic Oil - and switching to semi-synth or mineral could be a way to tighten it according to him.

He is not making excuses, just telling it as it is. Is this a big worry ? Or normal? Caveat emptor?

Thanks!

Its fairly normal on porsche engines but it could be something entirely trivial, or something more serious..

I've rebuilt a 3.0SC motor after rod throwing carnage so I know my way round them.

They can be a bit weepy if running thinner grades of oil, however, I wouldn't expect a newly rebuilt engine to do so. Mine was pefectly oil tight after I did it.

911 engines are a bit complex and tricky, If the car is priced on the basis of a newly rebuilt engine I'd want to see the invoices from someone reputable. what is alledged to have been replaced? Cases split? Or a top end only?

Good man.

I used semi synth in my old never rebuilt 3.2, it dripped very slightly, when I put Mobil 1 full synth it leaked like a sieve

a few drops every now and then underneath the middle when its warm, seller thinks there might be a slight seal leak somewhere.
Engine is strong and freshly rebuilt, fully synthetic oil.

Dansk exhaust, new Bilstein HD/Turbo shocks all around, Yokohama advan sport 105 new tyres all around.
Gearbox rebuild 1500 miles ago, Engine 1300 miles since rebuild, new clutch.

150k Miles, 1984 3.2.

If the rebuild included a rebore/pistons, I've read that full synthetic oil is a bad idea, as it prolongs the bedding-in process.

Using a cheaper oil to start was recommended, then full synthetic oil when the engine was run in.

Bit late for that now lol, THAT being said - its only done like a few thousand miles after the rebuild.
Perhaps just let it warm up properly and give it some long summer drives with the occational caning for a few thousand miles more?
