It's quite heavy.
Compareing to Veyron doesn't make sense. The smaller the displacement the easier to get and deal with the specific output.
The K20A In the Mugen Atom makes about 140hp/L normally aspirated.
The latest iteration of the VAG 2.0L Turbo is making 207hp/L, stock.

when is 1100 kilos heavy not really a heavy weight. i like it, i am sure if the badge was German the reaction would be warmer.

It's fairly porky for a Fiesta.
I know all cars have bloated-out over the years, but as comparison a Mk2 XR2 is 800kg & a Mk3 XR2i 918.

I agree that this would get a more positive reation if it had some German badge on it.

But the comparison to the mk2 Fiesta is flawed. Some stats:

Dimension - mk2 - mk6
Length - 3565 - 4067
Width - 1567 - 1722
Height - 1360 - 1473
Weight - 825 - 1100

Now lets compare a mk4 Escort to a mk6 Fiesta:

Dimension - Escort - mk6
Length - 4061 - 4067
Width - 1834 - 1722
Height - 1349 - 1473
Weight - 1080 - 1100

Now lets consider all the kit that mk6 Fiesta has got, and the safety standards it has to meet, which the mk4 Escort doesn't, that looks like a lot of progress to me!

Which between those two Mk's the weight jumped 118kg. The Mk3 also had less than half the equipment, hardly any safety features etc etc compared to the mk7. No doubt people said at the time the Mk3 was bloated and how many blue oval fans salivate over them now.

We are now at Mk7 and if we used that logic of 118kg a time the car would weigh a lot more than 1100kg (over 1400kg in fact) so the fact the cars actually bigger and has all the toys, similar performance and much better fuel economy (lets not forget you might actually survive a crash in one) I think you can call it progress.

My Mk6 has leather, cruise control, climate control, heated seats, electric windows and mirrors, voice control, nav, Bluetooth gubbins, stupid LED lighting on the inside and outside, airbags stuffed in every available aperture and can sit at 70mph in almost complete silence. It can carry four adults in good comfort, without rattles squeaks or another annoyances. It averages 52mpg and returns 62mpg on my longer drives.

Given the choice between a Mk2 and a Mk6, I think I'll stick with the Mk6.

If you want something smaller, get a Ka.

What does the car sound like?

I went out in a Fiat Panda 4x4 recently with Fiat's 0.9l twin air engine recently and thought the engine sounded really sporty, it was a bit shrill with too many revs but over all I thought it was a fantastic engine that gave the car real character.

If the Fiesta's engine sounds as good as Fiat's Twin Air, I can see this being a fantastic car and a great alternative to those who can't afford the ST but want something a bit different, sporty and fun.

Daihatsu Charade GTti. 993cc. 3 cyl. 12 valve. 0.60 7.9 seconds.

This was a car from the late 80's early 90's.

And the youngsters of today think that progress has been made in the motor industry.
I had 1 of these and that was 25 years ago.

Only issue was I had the car for 4 yrs and spent £4000 on the little tart, call me a knob-head but it was a lot of fun embarrassing so many other cars at that time.
Would still do it today.

Yes and how many do you see today? They have all rotted away or blown up. Again it was made out of tin foil and recycled coke cans for its interior.

Was noisey, rattly and uncomfortable. Look how much one of those would cost nowadays with inflation and would you buy a car like that today? a Charade at 16k+ like that, I doubt it.

But its like everything else of that era bar maybe the Golf Gti's The Astra GTE's XR3i's looked great back then but you look at the interior of one now you see how poorly built they are.

The Charade was a bloody quick car and I was surpised when a car dealer took me for a quick spin in one when I scoffed that it was only a 1 litre. It was every bit as fast as my pals Astra GTE.

Ok it was a rattly poorly built thing but so were most cars back then.

Sounded like a 911 too wink

I mentioned the Charade earlier on in the thread....in the late 90's I was lucky enough to own two ex works rally ones....we're totally off topic I know but the quicker of the two was pushing out 170 bhp!!, ok it was incredibly intractable, did 7mpg on the stages...but it sounded awesome and went like a rocket ... happy days

Lot of people say the Swift sport, ostensibly this vehicle's main competitor, is ugly.

Think Ford have done Suzuki a massive favour though, because not only is this a couple grand more with lots less kit, but put the swift next to this monstrosity and it looks a beaut.

These eco boost units are much nicer than the VAG equivalent in my experience. They seem a hell of a lot more robust too. Heared a couple of reports of excessive oil burning with eco boost units heared bloody hundreds with regards to VAG equivalents

So the Suzuki at £14k with a 1.6 is too cheap ?

But hold on, it has less power.

Confusing them numbers, aren't they ? ;-)

haha and don't forget all the kit as standard on the Swift Sport - cost you a couple of grand on the fiesta black/red to bring it anywhere near that. And still won't have xenons. And still slower. And still less fun. And you can still play 'count the fiestas' on any journey.

Hope I don't sound biased, but it's all true smile

You're right K. The SSS is brilliant value and would be my choice too having driven one on the road here and Dale's enhanced ones at the Ring.

I was just trying to highlight the absurdity of comparing price and engine size...unless of course the irony was lost on me...
