Guilty secret time: I really like unchopped 30s Fords.

I love the side profile of that '34 and everytime I see Russ Pepper's 32 I wonder why anyone would chop one..

I really don't like the later 30s cars with a chop, it just goes out of proportion..

Believe it or not google doesn't throw up ant pics of Russ's car, so this one from fastlane will have to do. Ironically this is actually chopped, but only by about an inch IIRC.

I like the way Alloway chopped this chevy, http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0609sr_1937_ch...
Huge amount of work though.

So are we all going to the supernats then ? should be a great weekend if the weather stays with us. I'm going on the Thursday.

Rake might be a bit too much

A few (ok maybe 5 or 6) years ago there was a red '32 over here, stock height, fenderless, wide whites with radir (or similar) wheels. IIRC it wasn't channeled but had a bit of that east coast look to it. I was just looking for a picture but can't find one. Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool.

This is what I mean about heavy chops on late 30s cars, just doesn't work to my eye. I think the only way to solve it is section the body, fenders and all to bring the body back in proportion.

Wow, that's Coffee Grinder Model A, first built in the 50s in the USA by Adam Coffee.
I remember drooling over this, it was parked outside Fairfield Halls Croydon part of the Dragracing69 show in 1969, it was the first proper US hotrod I had seen, has been restored a few years ago by Dave Haskell I think and turned up at Wheelsday
I wondered if it was coffee grinder, but wasn't sure.

Here it is post resto

There is a whole site for the car at http://www.coffeegrinderhotrod.co.uk/

Back in the day Ray Mumford was the chap for Murals, take a look at his site www.raymumford.co.uk

Reminder for next weekend Supernats at Old Warden near Biggleswade. Its the biggest hot rod show in the UK and probably one of the best in Europe. Sunday entry is £8,
Old Warden is here : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Shuttleworth+C...

Its worth coming to see all the stuff we've been prattling on about, weather should be great so I think there will be a good turnout!
Each year they bring someone who is well known in the hot rod world, this year Pat Ganahl is coming over. Pat is a long time hot rod journalist and author, I don't know the exact plans but he is likely to do a talk or two over the weekend, lots of stories and tales to be told I'm sure.

Should be a good weekend smile

I still haven't processed my pics from the Supernats yet, will endeavour to do so.

Meantime Next weekend (12-14th) is the NSRA Hot Rod Drags, less about show, more about go. Worth a trip out if the weather is ok!

I've just seen an advert for a TV Series called "bhin' Rides", http://youtu.be/g0T7ryZclRI
Don't know if it will make it over here but might be worth a look provided its not another "reality" show full of fake drama and deadlines.
Kindig has made some nice stuff - http://www.kindigit.com/

Meantime I dug up a couple of albums from the Goodguys west coast nationals that was held in Pleasanton a couple of weekends ago:

Finally for the racers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wG6bgoIf1s#t=38
Ouch! Apparently the cam snapped and forced the top of the engine off, they didn't even get an oildown penalty.

Just came across this picture:

Thats Mickey Thompson in 1959, just about to set out on a run at Bonneville. We've mentioned Thompson before in the thread, he was one of the legends: he drag raced, ran the infamous Lions strip for a time, started the tyre company that still bears his name and obviously ran on the salt.

It was posted by his son, Danny, who used to go racing with his Dad. The story is a sad one, Mickey and his wife were gunned down at their home in the late 80s over a business deal that went bad.

Danny is back running at Bonneville, he wants to be the fastest man in the world in a piston car, at the grand age of 64.
Here's an article about the project : http://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2014/08/us/what... and his website http://thompsonlsr.com/

He ran 419mph a couple of weeks ago.

Just thought it was pretty cool, this is proper racing heritage.

Yep, thread a little quiet of late. I've been waiting to see this car come out for a few years, Alloway built '37 Chevrolet - as always black with red interior and a whole host of body mods and some interesting valve covers..
