How many cars is enough?
Discussion
I have gone from one to four in a couple of weeks. Historically only owned one myself but had access to others.
Now I have:
Peugeot 207 Van 1.4 Hdi - work vehicle, super economical (thrash it and it returns 50mpg)
BMW Z4 M Coupe - Fun car, for a trip round Europe. Currently not sure what to do with it (sell and upgrade or keep, I like it a lot)
BMW E36 325 Track Car.... sadly (or not) this also comes with a donor car which is not going to be driven but is nonetheless mine!
I also keep my mother's Audi TT (mk1) in the winter as her garage has no electricity and she doesn't drive it enough to keep it charged. My other half also has a SEAT Ibiza.

2 for me.
1 track car/weekend fun, Elise, VX220, something like that
1 daily "do everything" that will make the commute a little more interesting, a car than can seriously get a move on when needed yet be able to carry plenty of stuff, and be practical enough to use everyday, but not munch through fuel at a rate that would embarrass a rocket yet be quiet and civilised and discreet enough to be able to leave in a multi-storey car park/ on the road/ supermarket and not worry about it too much. - RS6/GTR that sort of thing.
More realistically, Audi S4, or 159 TI Sportwagon.

I reckon 3 would do me pretty well:
Exactly this. If I had the funds I would have:- Swift, comfortable, spacious, nice to drive mile-muncher, eg Subaru or BMW.
- Fun & trackday car, eg MX5.
- Proper offroad 4wd, eg Nissan Safari.
- Fast barge (Audi A6 4.2 Quattro)
- Lightweight sports car (Mk3 Toyota MR2)
- Monster 4x4 (Landcruiser 80/100 series 4.2td)
On a practical note I find cars do much better if they are driven regularly (daily if possible). I've owned 3 cars on two occasions and found that the more cars you have, the less they get driven and this can lead to problems.
A relative of mine has 10 across their main home and summer house. Every time I visit they end up searching for keys, losing registration documents (have to have in the car in Germany), flat batteries or TUV (MOT) out of date. It seems like mayhem but they like their cars, buy new and hold onto them for a long time.

You can NEVER have too many but importantly, it's best to have so many that you're not quite sure how many you have as some will be in bits as project cars, some being used for parts etc.
It helps in this case if you have a few old Land Rovers (which I do) as you soon accumulate enough parts to build another couple if you put your mind to it. You'll also have a couple that you are not quite sure whether then can be classified as cars or not. In any case, I think I have 7 complete cars at moment, but of course always on the lookout for something else, something interesting. Having ebay Classic cars as a shortcut on my desktop is never good and I often find myself putting a cheeky bid on something.
I also find I crave something different each week - at present I'm yearning the 911 I've never had and also the old e30 M3 that I had and stupidly sold so I've got my eye on those again. And having an old e30 325 touring i'm always interested if another good one comes up. I also quite fancy an e30 convertible. And a muscle car.
And I've never had enough Italian cars and Integrales are looking nice at the moment. But then I realise that you could only drive it in summer and start (weirdly, as I hate Japanese cars) Subaru STIs... And as I have a Z4M, I find myself looking at Z3M Breadvans before they go even crazier... Oh well. Anyway, as I was saying, you can never have too many cars.

Ouch.
Hope you make a speedy recovery!
Thanks Swerni, i remember being sat in the neuro surgeons office and he was explaining the whole procedure and the risks involved with major Brain Surgery.Hope you make a speedy recovery!
And then he said "You'll also be banned from driving for 12 months", my heart just sank. Especially considering i had my Ferrari in getting a new bespoke exhaust fitted.
Luckily for me, the DVLA said that it's only 6 months, as long as i haven't had any seizures.
