This is epic, probably the most modern muscle car i yearn to own.
I agree. The new Camaro Z28 is also on my 'dream muscle car' list as well it's great that despite everything some lucky Americans will be able to walk into any Dodge dealership and order a 700hp car! I wonder if this will use the same semi-slick like tyres the Camaro Z28 uses? I think we are reaching the peak of the modern muscle car now it's hard to see where you can go up from 700hp!

All of it. Into a huge, smile inducing mountain of smoke that blots out the sun! Exactly how it should be...

Thing is, if the car had 400bhp, you could still spin the tyres up, so you'll be able to put down the same amount of power (as limited by the tyres) you'll just have to be a lot better to do it in this hehe

And where's the harm in that? Or would you prefer something with launch control and a dual clutch box to do it all for you? tongue out

So the valet does not crash it wink
Definitely.

The valet will never crash it with only 500hp

The downside with these cars is the American propensity for dealers to be able to charge around $20000 premium for the first cars. always happens and mnaufacturers can't stop them, under the system they have over there.
The first Challengers and GT500s had these ludicrous "scabbing" premiums attached, until demand evened out and there was no longer a queue.

sooooo..... from the factory it produces 707bhp.....which means that to make the engine reliable it must be a reasonable distance from its actual tolerances. That means that there is a tuning company somewhere that can and probably will put it up to 1000+bhp??

Probably wont be long before Hennessey & such get hold of em. They have already done a 1200bhp CTSV laugh

Weren't Shelby selling a super cobra Mustang with 1000bhp or similar?

I'm not a fan of the Callenger, but I do like the Camaro smile

500bhp is more than enough bhp for a valet to write the car off wink No?

Didn't Ford or Shelby release a 900hp Supersnake Mustang last year?

Agree with this. It'll never do a 10 second 1/4 mile though as questioned in the article.

So.. Will it go round corners?

Also.. It will have launch control... The 2014 SRT has it on.. So presuming this will. Almost bought one in the Middle East , we have no corners there, so thought the muscle car would be a good option as I wouldn't own one in the uk!

Personally the bonkers camaro looks as though it handles well from the videos of it on the ring.

I think you will find people have been tuning the Chrysler Hemi well over 1000bhp since the 1960s. Witness the 7000bhp+ behemoths that Top Fuel drag racers use.

You're both thinking of the Shelby 1000. Basically, it's a Shelby SuperSnake (itself a tuned version of the already bonkers 662 bhp "standard" GT500) turned up to 11. Originally, it had 1000 bhp (hence the name). For 2014, they upped it to 1200 bhp but still kept the "Shelby 1000" name. Think about it. 1200 bhp. 1,200 bhp!!! That's as much as a Veyron SuperSport!

That being said, that is an after-sale package by Shelby, so not a "production car". In fact, Shelby will put the GT1000 package on any GT500, or sell you the components to do it yourself.

Absolutely perfect undersell by Chrysler.

Instead of being a player in this muscle car era, it becomes the lead sentence of a paragraph. "In 2014, Dodge introduced the 707hp..."

Well, the current Top Fuel and Funny Car Hemis are pretty far removed from the 426 of the '60s, AFAIK. That said, period Top Fuel dragsters were pushing up to 2000 bhp, so your argument is not invalid.

I'd hazard a guess that numerous Hellcats will be tuned to well over 1000 bhp, especially in America. Here, more is always better and we have a culture of car modification which means most Mustangs/Camaros/Challengers/Chargers you'll see on the road have more power under the hood than stock. I'm also positive that more than a few will be blown up in the quest for horsepower brinksmanship.
