What actually happened then?
Not sure, looked like the GT2 was on a flying lap & hit the M3 as it was speeding up after leaving the GH area, they ended up in the big dip after the bridge.

however, what were the implications for the GT2 & M3 drivers on wednesday that brought the session to yet another red flag & ultimately ended the day prematurely?

last we saw, the police were on track investigating the coming together of the two cars?
As it was a private track day, as far as I am aware the only reason for the police to attend would be to establish that nobody was seriously hurt and possibly there may be a report filed for the benefit of insurance companies but that would be speculation (one car was Italian and the other a local rental but I don't know anything about the insurance status of them other than the rental had a huge excess). Medical personnel attended and people were taken away for checks but there were not any serious injuries. In public sessions the police will always attend any incident involving multiple vehicles, but I've not seen them do so on a track day before so it might just have been misunderstanding that it wasn't a public session? In general though - each driver's car is between them and any insurance cover in place and the barrier bill for this one would be split.

I am just glad that nobody was hurt though - the circumstances of the accident are pretty much a worst case scenario and I've been nervous of the possibility of it happening for years.
So you don't know then? smile

I overheard someone who "may" have had something to do with the M3 explaining that "they needed to get their stories straight" while the police were in attendance.

.
It's more complicated than 'each party bears his own losses' when there's contact with a foreign registered / insured car on a European trackday - which I suspect is one of the reasons behind the withdrawal of cover by some UK underwriters.

Does that mean that perhaps European track cover could be provided by UK insurers if the event is limited to UK cars only...or the policy stipulates that you are not covered if the other car is a Euro car....?

Not the details of the police attendance, no. Which is why I could only speculate of why they were there in the context of previous experiences from having been going to the place regularly for about 7 years in a mixture of public and track day events.

I met the owner of the GT2 while I was discussing the incident with the track day organiser the following morning. The guy who was driving at the time of the accident was also there, but they didn't speak a lot of English. I was also in the office when a guy from the company operating the rental M3 was enquiring about the likely barrier charges and when they were likely to be known. I haven't seen the onboard video and wasn't there, but I do understand the nature of the accident quite well from a previous experience than I managed to avoid (albeit not by as much as I'd like) a couple of years ago. But I'll spare you from any more opinion and speculation smile

I'm curious (and no Nürburgring expert...) - what's the secret 'racing line' through Adenauer Forst?
Is it a reference to the "line" in the video?

Ah, quite possibly. I can't think of what else it could be.

Maybe taking to the grass and shortcutting the slow left.

That is the "Playstation Line" (earlier versions of Gran Turismo allowed loads of time to be saved there but dunno about more recent versions as I gave up video games years ago). Best avoided as the curbs are steep and can break suspension or hole the sump of your engine if you hit them wrong and get unlucky.

I'll be there next week with Jaguar fulfilling a long term ambition and I'll certainly be treating the place with a healthy respect. Don't expect to be emulating your antics Dan!
