RE: Shed Of The Week: Suzuki Ignis Sport

Hasn't shed just broken his own rules? I thought to be a SOTW it must have a valid tax and MOT and this one is SORN as of 16th June therefore disqualified itself?
Interesting car but for unknown hot hatch that is legal how about this:

I've always wanted one of these, but have never been able to understand why.
Don't know how old you are, but does it have "old school" appeal? And it manages to have the accoutrements of a modern car (safety features, ABS, etc) without piling on the weight the way most of its rivals have.Al U said:
Isn't there a road car 4 wheel drive version of these?
The VVT 4Grip, although it's only available in the 5-door body which might(?) be bigger. (It looks longer, but that might just be an illusion and I can't off-hand find any stats online.)jason61c said:

Yes, but it's the even uglier 5 door. The 3 door does have the space for the driveshafts though.I'm on my second, and they are great little cars. Not a motorway cruiser, if you do any significant motorway miles look elsewhere. All of my miles are rural backroads, which suits it perfectly. Neat close ratio gearbox, zips along. Supposed to run on Super, but my local garage doesn't stock that. Gets around 40MPG, but the tank is small- around 250 miles to a tank.
Generally reliable, my parent have run one for a few years, with no love and hard usage. Only problem was the clutch cable snapping and it's now got a noisy wheel bearing. Easy to work on, servicing is DIY affair. Engine has to come out the bottom for Engine/gearbox work. Gearbox oil fill plugs can seize. Lots in the north and Scotland, and seem to be getting a bit rusty now.
Lots have been 'modded', and generally not looked after.
Very practical for the size as the rear seats fold down for a completely flat floor- fits an unboxed 50" TV!
The only real complaint I have is that the steering wheel is too high and can't be adjusted.
The looks are an acquired taste, but it does look purposeful. Seems to get attention from people not sure what it is.

I don't care if it's fun to drive, it looks a piece of cheap crap. Send it to the crusher.
I think this comment will get the backs up of most PHers. You say you don't care if it's fun to drive, it looks crap so send it to the crushers!! So by that rationale if it looks great but drives crap you're in!! 318d M-Sport anyone?I have one too
I've owned it for just over a year now and it has been brilliant.
loves to be thrown around bends whilst screaming the arse off it. I regularly do long journeys in it and to be honest there are better cars that won't wreck your back or deafen you.
Parts can be expensive if you go to Suzuki for them, rear wheel bearings are £150 per side (it's the complete hub)and they do like to chew them but it's a 30-45 min job to change them. I paid about £100 for one but they can be found cheaper.
Next time I'm going to split the hub and just change the bearing alone.
same applies to front wishbones another £150 per side part but the Vauxhall Agila IIRC uses the same part so it's £50ish if you go aftermarket.
oh another thing is they do prefer to be run on super unleaded, they will run fine on 95ron but I have found the super makes a huge difference to how the car runs as a whole
I'm going to be looking for a change soon though, on any long journey I am starting to get pain in my right leg. I don't want to get rid of it as it has been the most fun car I have owned in a long time that doesn't cost a fortune to keep in fuel.

Engine timing is by chain & it's a very rev happy little unit producing a good noise in the process. As the article states you get discs all round, air conditioning & recaro seats as std. Very little to go wrong & I had no reason to believe it was going to cause me any trouble.
Mine was a bit over shed budget due to it's low mileage, but they're good cars. If you're much over 6 foot you might not fit mind.

4 wheel drive version only comes with the smaller 1.3 i believe and even if it was offered on the 1.5 it would be a hell of a lot slower for it. the amount of extra weight and drag would easily put the 0-60 time into double figures.
Cant believe nobody has mentioned the naff looking mesh headrests yet.
I do like these though headrests aside. Neighbour used to have one and used to tear round in it everywhere. At least he looked a lot less like a nob than he did doing it in his old VTR.

Had one for 3 years, brilliant little car. Loves to be revved, and scampers down B roads. I'll back up all those who comment on the low gearing not being fun on the motorway, and be prepared that if something goes wrong that the part will be made from phoenix feathers and unicorn horn, and will have to be ordered.
