RE: Shed Of The Week: Suzuki Ignis Sport
Discussion
I've had mine for three years now and it was only supposed to be a 6 month 'fill in' when I originally bought it.
Rock hard suspension, very low gearing (60mph is 3000rpm in top), rattly interior, has to run on 98RON minimum and genuine Suzuki service parts are expensive. But...
It's a rev-happy, decent handling little car that is actually a pleasure to chuck around the B roads. You can keep a far bit of speed up and it's no slouch. It'll do 39mpg all day long, no matter what you do. Surprises a few (especially as they don't know what it is!). Put on decent rubber, a tank full of V-Power (never more than £45), watch out for the bumps, and enjoy!

Suzuki and Daihatsu make surprisingly good cars. They last and last and drive flawlessly.
I was given a Sirion for a few hours ... and it embarrased proud badged opponents in corners and acceleration.
The good thing is they depreciate so you can pick one up for grabs. The bad thing is ... they don't look that well.
New Swift does the job and looks good. I'd choose that over the Ignis which sits too high to really enjoy on the bendy bits.
Badges such as Giant, Bianchi, and Boardman maybe..I was given a Sirion for a few hours ... and it embarrased proud badged opponents in corners and acceleration.

Toyota Yaris engine? Bone hard ride - on thin Recaro's, so my choice would be the Yaris 1.5 Tsport.
But at this money you're on a winner...
different engine apparently but it certainly wont win any comfort contests, I don't mind as I only use it for getting to work mainly. I know a couple of people with the Yaris and its not so revvy or fun to drive and you fall out the seats. The interior is much more modern though. But at this money you're on a winner...
Almost went for a near identical one of these instead of the Coupe. Was a bit right field and swerved off to get the Fiat as I wanted to giggle at the inline-5 sound  Wouldn't mind the few extra mpg on the daily commute though and in real terms, this'll be faster. Oh well, maybe when I sell the Coupe

Hasn't shed just broken his own rules? I thought to be a SOTW it must have a valid tax and MOT and this one is SORN as of 16th June therefore disqualified itself?
Interesting car but for unknown hot hatch that is legal how about this:

A 5dr Abarth Stilo isn't really that hot a hatch. Even the 3dr struggles a bit as though it sounds brilliant, it doesn't really go all that fast or go round corners all that well with the standard suspension. And don't even mention that Selespeed gearbox - there was a reason why they went to a 5-speed after a while. I will say this though, the Stilo was far better than the 147 it was based on. Would've been interesting to see the 3.2 V6 in one Interesting car but for unknown hot hatch that is legal how about this:

Lol the pics in that Stilo advert are dreadful. Doesnt show half the car let alone the full car. Why focus on a tiny scratch and the tax disk. Not to mention the only external shot (ignoring the scratch) of the car is taken from some really weird angle.only1ian said:

I know the Coupe turbo engine was a popular mod into the old HGT Bravo but not really seen the same with the Abarth Stilo.
Agree as standard they are pretty rubbish. A ST170 Focus would run circles though I don't really rate them personally myself either.

Advert says MoT and tax til November. If this is the case, I presume the owner has registered it SORN because he no longer has valid insurance on it. There's a database for that too now.Interesting car but for unknown hot hatch that is legal how about this:

I think one chap on the Fiat Forum tried to turbo an Abarth but it never really worked out. From memory, there's a load of 1.6 turbo conversions in Greece and such though from what I've heard, it's one of the worst engines as standard in the Stilo - not much more power than the 1.2, more fuel consumption and revs higher on the m-way due to a 5-speed box. The afore mentioned Alfa conversion, one chap did manage it and it sounded rather decent... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2z2kXVfHOA&li...I know the Coupe turbo engine was a popular mod into the old HGT Bravo but not really seen the same with the Abarth Stilo.

That ad is terrible though. The pics show very little as you say and the text does nothing to back that up. Struggled to sell mine though last year despite a rather wordy description and tastfully taken pics
I think they were just underdeveloped really, I mean when I put Eibach springs and dampers on together with a strutbrace, the handling was transformed. I'm not going to say it was Focus rivalling, but it was far better in the corners, steering feel was a bit better despite the electric rack and you could push on with far more confidence. It had a small engine (1.2) but it was basically the same one as the afore mentioned Panda 100HP and loved the revs and always managed to put a smile on my face
Makes me intrigued to try the Prodrive Schumacher GP with the Bilstein struts though I can't help but feel the lack of a 6-speeder was another cost cutting option from Fiat - should've learnt from the Coupe in that respect.

Not related at all. I don't know where people get that idea from.
It's been said on here before and elsewhere so I thought the same until recently. Perhaps it's easy to confuse Daihatsu with Suzuki as Daihatsu share powertrains with Suzuki and produce similar cars? Also there are lots of similarities between the Yaris T-sport and Ignis Sport:
Were cheap warm hatches in the same class.
Made by Japanese manufacturers.
1.5L with similar power/torque.
Used the same size tyres.
Launched at about the same time and discontinued about the same time.
