There is one thing that bugs me about threads on this topic

Why can people not accept that the land belongs to the supermarket, they are therefore free to tell people where they can and can't park, they are free to make spaces for whoever they want in what ever location they want ITS THEIR PROPERTY. If you don't like it go eleswhere.
If the parking pays were marked for white people only would you support that too because 'it's their property'?

I view p&c spaces similar to the gay b&b legal case. When the property is used for business purposes the property owner or operator should not discriminate against specific sections of society in it's use. Of course those that benefit from the discrimination think it's a wonderful idea, but that does not make the property owners desires fair and reasonable.

What if the supermarket decided to sell certain items to parents with children only, or had a P&C only checkout would the supporters of P&C spaces support that too?
The simple fact is that your post is so utterly offensive towards the struggle that groups such as blacks and gays have had to go through.

To try and twist your perverted anger to align it with real causes reminds of those PIE loonies trying to link their argument to the GAL view.

You genuinely need help.

How is it unfair and unreasonable for the property owner to desire that all its customers can equally safely and conveniently get into and out of their cars?
indeed and If this was the case and equitable for all then this thread would not exist

No.

Because I am not an inconsiderate prick.

Fortunately I have a man to bring my shopping.

Yes they do. Whether or not they achieve it is another matter.

Who are these many people who would see as much safety benefit as small children by having more space around their cars?

You really are a fking idiot, aren't you. I dip into this thread and see that you are still spouting your hatred and drivel.

Why don't you do everyone a favour and just fk off somewhere where you won't be hounded by anything to do with parents and kids.

Your opinions suck absolute ass and you really do come across as a jealous, disturbed and very, very strange individual.

Q/ Why are disabled spaces close to the supermarket entrance?
A/ Because mobility is limited - and it makes sense to travel the shortest direction

Q/ Why are Parent and Child places close to the supermarket entrance?
A/ Because parent leaving the supermarket with a fully laden trolley with 1,2 or 3 young kids running around their feet does not have to negotiate row upon row of parked cars, worrying about kids running out onto the road and getting knocked down. ( Ever seen kids run like idiots in the supermarket? )

Q/ Why are the Disabled and P&C bays wider?
A/ Because they may have to get a wheelchair alongside - or a pram - or full width of door opening to get the kids in and out of the child seats.

Q/ Why do PH driving gods feel that they should park in the above bays?
A/ Because they are selfish bell-ends with no consideration with regards to the above.

And yet I can debate my opinion without swearing at and insulting people.

Strange world huh.

Whilst I would shy away from your candor, I fully understand, and agree with, the principles behind your rhetoric..

He seems to be a troubled individual, although I doubt he recognises that though.

If you want to claim that the P&C spaces are for the safety of children, you should look to see where these often are.

In the ASDA I sometimes go to they are right next to the only way out of the car park, probably the most dangerous place in the car park.

No you don't. You insult every caring parent with your stupid, jealous ramblings.

Also, you aren't debating an opinion. You just keep rolling out the same old tripe over and over again. You don't listen to other people's reasoned responses and just answer back with a bunch of tired, overused a quite pathetic comments.

I don't really care about swearing at you. Sometimes you have to do these things.

You would doubt that because you simply don't understand the rubbish you spout.

You come across as someone who hates parents for being parents. You also think that every parent expects more than someone who isn't, purely because they have made a decision that you don't agree with. That's a very strange attitude to have.

It's not jealousy, he is just one of those self centered individuals that has no consideration for anyone else and his pompous pride gets a little hurt when he is criticized. He probably holds a decent job down and earns a good amount of money, which for him is all the entitlement he needs to be self important. You are wasting your breath with the guy. Just accept that there are good and bad people and this is one of the ones not worth trying to reason with. You can't teach a pig to dance smile

It wasn't an insult, it was a metaphorical aphorism.

Why do you think that more space equals more safety?

Surely it matters where that space is. There is loads on the hard shoulder of the M1, is that a safe place though?

At my local supermarket, the P&C spaces are near the supermarket door with a route such that there are no roads or car park aisles to cross. Yes, that is safer. There is more space so you can lift a child's car/carry seat out of car, and able to do/undo a toddler's seat straps.

I doubt it would be overlooked, supermarkets are always under close scrutiny of planners, and planning departments employ enforcement offers to pick up these things. I have has enforcement action over such things as a bin store a meter out of position. Planning is far from relaxed.

Making the store smaller is a commercial decision, but don't forget that many stores were built in the 1980's, cars have got bigger since then, typically you don't demolish part of a store. You will also find that most stores built in the last few years on the edge of town will have bigger spaces, Aldi certainly do.

Land is finite, you can't easily just go and buy a bit more, especially in developed areas.

I have some idea what I am talking about here, I have a land team whose job it is to buy land, some of it we sell to supermarkets

The two statements contradict each other in one you bleat about planners and planning departments in the next you claim its the property of the supermarkets and they can do what they wish !

So which argument do you wish to standby Mr Land purchaser ? because if the latter is true a supermarket can make a parking space as big or small as they desire..........
They don't contradict

Planning stipulates the number of spaces and the minimum number of disabled spaces, it doesnt care how other spaces are allocated as long as the allocation is legal.

Of course they can make spaces as big as they desire, but again you have missed the fact that the size of the site is finite.
