to my extremely untrained eye, that looks very overstayed, and almost Korean

if you were given a lifetime service package, warrantee and fuel card for any car you choose but you must keep it for at least 15 years, this must surely be up there.

What a thing!!!!! if RHD 4matic were available and a little tickle by DMS, you'd be in heaven...

The most beautiful one remains the original CL 65 AMG (C215) which appeared in 2004... 612 bhp and 1000 Nm of torque (738 foot pound)... a very very very rare car !

A friend of my dad owned a C215 CL55, spent most of it's time at the dealer fixing electronic issues. One of the prettiest Mercs ever though.

I know several owners of C215 facelift (2003-2005), they never had any issue with the electronic, neither with ABC suspension.
This concern the pre-facelift model launched in 2000, yes.
One of the most beautiful Mercedes ever, CLASSIC.

I agree that the C215 is probably the best looking CL, I think they've aged incredibly well and look better now than they did when they were new (IMHO). I don't think the CL65 trinkets suit it (the wheels and the quad pipes), but a great looking car none-the-less.

I thought these used to limited to 185?

What's the point if the performance is so similar to the V8?

Not for me thanks.
You've not been in a V12 GT car have you. The difference is smaller but how about I ask you this....

Why not have a very very highly strung 2.0 turbo churning out 600bhp instead of this?

The V8 is far from rough (I recently went in a CL63 AMG a month or so back) but a V12 would suit it superbly.

Point missed I think.

I'm not really a Mercedes man but I must say that is a stunning looking car to my eyes. I may consider buying one in 2018/19 when its down to £30k or less!

Easily reached, even in the '63 AMG in the UK. Apparently.

I dare say Mercedes would remove the limiter if you asked nicely.

I doubt more than a handful of UK market cars will ever even get close to it, though. It's not as if people buy an S-class for track use. hehe

Don't see the relevance of speed limiter and track use. I doubt it'd reach 155mph on many tracks, certainly UK-based tracks....yet it would happily reach that on an empty motorway at night.

I think that is pretty stunning, although I'm not a fan of coupe versions of cars which really should be 4 door as they're so big. Either buy a proper sports car or a proper saloon.

im sure it is , but for how long would you be able to hold it , even in Germany it would be limited amounts of time unless you go out at 3 in the morning

And in the UK its going to be time in the big house

You know when you absolutely, positively, must get to the South of France as quickly as possible because there has been some fresh snow in Chamonix?

This is the car for that.
I'd rather take a Ferrari FF thanks.

I was kind of assuming that no-one would be daft enough to try to do 155 on a UK motorway. Regardless of whether it's safe or not, it's not conducive to keeping one's licence or indeed one's freedom.

I suppose the only situation in the UK that anyone is likely to approach those sorts of speeds in a big barge is at events like VMAX.

Saw this at Goodwood guys and the interior is a disappointment. Looks cheap, barren and haphazard. The vents looked like they would break if you opened them a few times. The center console was something out of a Fisher Price car. Other randoms at the show agreed too, I could hear them when I was sat in the driver's seat. There's no doubt though that from the outside it looks a peach. I just hope the drive of this thing makes up for it, because at this price, the interior is somewhere you don't want to be in.

I do agree that they look even better now than 10 years ago.
I think the wheels look perfect, these ones were only available with the 65 AMG so that was a good way to differentiate a CL 55 (with 18" wheels) and a CL 65 (19" wheels).

Isn't it because a lot of the components would then have to be uprated to deal with the extra speed (see Brabus)

Car Magazine's the Good, the bad and the ugly section once described the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance as being, "as flash as a rat with a gold tooth." It is a fairly apt description of this too. Whatever happened to Mercedes' elegance?
