Tyre wear rate RS6 - normal driving
Discussion
Well a bit of a surprise today as I measured the tread depth - they have now done 4.2k miles and all are 6.5mm min.
So its actually much much better wear rate
They come with what 8mm new so 4.2k miles wearing 1.5mm so assuming the same wear rate down to 1.6mm then these should mathematically last 18k miles which is frankly very good indeed.

So panic over nothing then
Who knows. All we do know is that something is badly wrong here. Let's just look at the supposed facts here:Welshbeef said:
I replaced all 4 tyres 1.5k miles ago with brand new Michelin PS2 R01's 8mm of tread.
Over these miles I've been driving normally with a bit of Fun here and there - however today I decided to check the tread depths to find that all 4 had a wear spread 6.5/7/7.5 inside/middle/outside so 1.5mm tread loss in 1.5k miles
so that's a minimum reading of 6.5mm and now 2,700 miles later the tread depth is:Over these miles I've been driving normally with a bit of Fun here and there - however today I decided to check the tread depths to find that all 4 had a wear spread 6.5/7/7.5 inside/middle/outside so 1.5mm tread loss in 1.5k miles

Or your mate with the RS6 gave you the wrong readings!!
Tyres are the least of his worries. That car's cost him near on a grand and a half since his last post on this thread.Welshbeef said:
But to date my total spend is scale raging to well over £800pcm - without need for expensive changes like cambelts brakes or anything which breaks - so I am very much weighing things up at the moment nearly a year so a real potential time to change.
An alignment check on any C5 is money well spent - especially if the bushes in the rear end are original. The car will have settled a fair bit and it'll go through inner edges on the rear and outer edges on the front if you do town driving.
10-12k on tyres is about it with town work.
Michelins seem to wear well, particularly Super Sports - Continental SC5 wear out in no time.
As previously posted try running slightly higher pressures if the tyre wear is uneven

For an extra £35 a tyre from the same supplier I would opt for the Super Sports - although the Vreds get a good write up I've always been slightly sceptical of a tyre manufacturer who makes claims about their tyres which focus more on which designer has come up with the tread pattern in order to give it a 'sporty' appearance - I'd rather they sold it to me on the basis of its wet grip performance, noise and wear rate (all of which are available for comparison, obviously) given its intended purpose....

So you went for the RS6 for it's legendary ability to eek out mileage on tyres? So its actually much much better wear rate
