Lordy lordy that thing's ugly from the back, but at least it doesn't have the same huge lump of black plastic as the M135i

Does this share the ridiculous "sound symposer" engine noise fakery with the M135i?
Well yes, but symposer insinuates its making a noise which isn't originally there, the BMW system just amplifies the engine note lost by all the emissions gubbins.

its playing a fake sound via the speakers, mimicking the original sound is irrelevant, its fake

No, it is taking the original engine sound, and amplifying it. The only fakery is in the volume, not the sound itself. I believe the Renault and VW systems rely on pure fakery, although I may be wrong.

Hi,

As a new member I can agree, and to a certain extent disagree with both sides, I have an MX5, by definition a 2 seater sports car, I also have a M235i.

So which would be better at the track, the 1.8l 2 seater, or the 3.0l turbo fitted with Pilot Super Sports, in my opinion its a simple answer. The BMW M235i, it handles almost as well as the MX5, the brakes are better and it's a HELL of a lot faster.

The sound is electronically produced based on simple inputs like engine load/rpm etc. Therefore it is fake as it is not a sound channelled or even electonically recorded from the engine but a synthesised version of a pre-recorded sound.

Shame cause it sounds dang good
