I'm travelling via SLC and am planning on being there for the 11th and (maybe) some of the 12th before the obligatory visit to Yellowstone.
If you drive north from SLC please stop at Yellowstone Bear World north of Idaho Falls and bottle feed bear cubs. We did it last years, just magical!aeropilot said:

I know a fair few that have been & one day I'll get there.....hopefully.
Someone said to me "Take lots of sun cream and lots of drink..............or take lots of money!"I know a fair few that have been & one day I'll get there.....hopefully.
From their website and bearing in mind the size of the place, I get the impression that its quite relaxed in so far as you can wonder around the pits etc.
What I'm not sure about is whether there's more than 1x track and separate pit areas etc.
I'm assuming we'll be able to drive out to close to the pit area(?)
Wonder if there's a 'run what you brung' class for rental cars
There are four courses which run from the same area and run like your fingers away from one another. Course 1 and 2 are for 175mph+ the other 2 are for motors up to 175. The pits are one big area, about 2 miles long, 4 blocks wide, tech inspection area, impound, stalls etc. You can only view course 1 with a bit of course 2, the others you can't see. Pits are all open so just wander freely. Lots of cars are up in queue so may not be in the pits much.
You can park anywhere really. If you keep outside the pits you can park about the mid point and just wander in. You can also park anywhere along the course side where there is room. In the pits there is a fuel point for racers and access to the return lane which goes up to the start. We parked on the course side and had all sorts of rat rods, hot roads, crew cars and trailers running up and down. In the morning I spent ages just watching the cars arriving, so much variety. We are going to park at the start line this year for a bit where you can view the starts which are not high on speed but extra high on volume. Cars to aim for this year, Carbonite LSR, Challenger2, Speed Demon and Target 550.
Yep, take plenty of sun cream and water. The police are tight on speeding and will test you for booze. Stick to limits on road to the salt, they do ticket people out there. We saw a bloke get pulled and tested last year, car towed and him arrested. Take wide brim hat. Morning sun is in your eyes, later on is better for viewing and pics. You can't view course side on far side. Might be due to access, salt depth, etc.
Just arrived in Salt Lake City to be greeted with news that there's no racing until Monday, which is when we're due to be flying out!!!!!!
Bonneville program was Thu/Fri course preparation and set-up with racing beginning 10am Sat.
Due to the Salt being too wet they plan to start course prep tomorrow (Sat) and will let competitors set up their pits and scrutineer on Sunday, with racing beginning 10am Monday.....so long as salt dries sufficiently and prep goes to [revised] plan.
A LONG way to come and not see any racing!
Hopefully we'll see all the racers in the pits, but not quite the same as seeing them in action.

For those interested there's live streaming of the action (when it begins) here

Bonneville Speed Week has now been cancelled - GUTTED!
Long way to come to see nothing..............wish I'd gone to Wilton House instead.
Oh no!....... Long way to come to see nothing..............wish I'd gone to Wilton House instead.
It was cancelled only back in 2011, for the same reasons.
I suspect, unfortunately, that this will happen more often as time goes by, as the conditions of the salt lake change.
