Hi,

I'm trying to buy a car to replace a 2006 Mondeo and I'm looking for a chart that shows the widths of the current range of cars. I wondered if anyone would know if such a think exists?

I'm just wondering because I live in Cambridge and the city is very old with narrow, parked up, roads and a *lot* of cyclists. I'd like to buy a narrow car because with all of the parked cars now being so wide it's getting harder and harder to fit a modern wide car up the road and still pass a cyclist coming the other way. I wondered if you might know if anyone had compiled this information?

This is what I have so far:

length width including mirrors
polo 2014 3970 mm 1901mm
audi a1 2014 3954 mm 1906mm
volks up 2014 3540 mm 1910mm
mondeo 2006 4731 mm 1958mm
Audi A3 2014 4237mm 1960mm
fiesta 2014 3950 mm 1978mm
focus 2014 4358 mm 2010mm
focus estate 4556 mm 2010mm
golf 2014 4255 mm 2027mm
new mondeo 2014 4,869mm 2092mm
Honda accord 2,110 mm

Thanks!

Here's an image of my table as the formatting didn't come out well.

Where are you getting the dimensions you have listed from?

Word of warning Autotrader is miles out for many of the cars I've looked at over the years (narrow garage door, but big inside).

Thanks for this thought. I had wondered actually. :-) Most of them came from http://carleasingmadesimple.com/

Also be aware that most manufacturers list the width as the widest part of the vehicle body, excluding mirrors.

Cambridge is so car unfriendly.

I worked in parking services there and it's ridiculous

How are you comparing an audi A1 and a Honda Accord in the same breath?
What size car do you want?
Auris estate 1760mm

Most car's these day's are around 70 inches wide due to side impact testing and roof crush testing, while needing to retain shoulder room for the occupants.

Narrowest car on the market I can find is the Kia Picanto at 62.8 inches wide although this does not include wing mirrors.

Aston-Martin DB5 is surprisingly narrow. Also try TR6 or MGB.

On a serious note I have found a diesel Panda to be eminiently narrow and threadable. It also has 4 doors and a surprisingly large boot.

I found my old Octavia to be nicely slim, despite being longer than a big Volvo.

Thanks for all these great ideas. I hadn't realised there were any more posts and have just caught up on the thread. I totally agree about Cambridge being car-unfriendly. It must be very hard for those who do not live cycling distance from the centre, as the parking charges are astonishingly high.

Thanks for all the help!
