RE: Rover SD1 at Goodwood: Time For Tea?
Monday 21st July 2014
The Gerry Marshall Trophy at the Goodwood Members' Meeting recently was a must-see for all fans of historic cars. Capris, Escorts, GTVs, Minis, Mustangs - all sorts. Every car was battling hard for every position and the racing was superb. Here we have a snippet of onboard from the victorious Rover SD1, prepared by JD Classics. Why feature a Members' Meeting video now? Because it was only published last week. Better late than never and all that.
Rover SD1 at Goodwood: Time For Tea?
A Rover V8 and oversteer; make Monday afternoon pass a little quicker with this onboard!
Seeing a cage and race equipment in a very brown Rover interior looks strange. But not half as strange as hearing a raucous V8 amongst the velour and old vents.
The vid shows both Chris Ward and Andrew Smith driving. We've said it before, we'll probably say it again, but motorsport was a better spectacle with less grip. Slithering and sliding its way round, the SD1 is a great watch. Top work all round!

Takes me back to when I worked for Patrick Motors, & Patrick MotorSport, when we raced these cracking cars in the British Saloon Car Championship (as it was known then).
The cars were run for us by Martin Thomas. We had some great times & some good races although as we were not the favoured 'works' team we couldn't quite match the TWR cars.
However we had some great fun & we almost won the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone in, I think, 1981.
Happy days & good memories.
So good to see these cars being driven balls out like this.
Epic stuff - I also noted that the replica PMG liveried Mini 1275GT was also being given the beans. Love it.
More please.

I thought I'd add this here if you didn't see it in the you tube thread. Murray walker and SD1 action.

2 heros I have always followed and thought the best at their particular disciplines….Gerry Marshall in Racing cars and The one and only Tony Pond in a rally car..both legends and in my opinion the best of their time.
