Another one which really hacks me off is when people take their seat belt off and just leave it go, so it springs back into the b pillar, resulting in scratched plastic. Is it that hard to feed it back? This is guys as well as girls.

Another pet hate is bonnet closing (can't blame women as they NEVER open the bonnet wink ),usually car garages who practically throw the bonnet down, they don't need that much bloody force to close them!

Perhaps the worst for me was when a mate opened the car door, with the usual brute force, into a low stone wall.. Safe to say I was a little tetchy for a good while after.

People just don't care about anything these days, take the number if people who've smashed an iPhone screen for one.

E36 cab as my daily it drives me nuts,it's amazing how little you have to push it to close.
My daughter does it every single day I tense up as she gets out.

It's when my wife still slams doors and boots/tailgates shut that have closing aids that I get pissed off. Or when they fail to use the handles that are set into the interior to pull said boots/tailgates shut, instead choosing to leaving finger marks on the outside. Of course, none of this is as distressing as back in the days before remote locking, when they used to love nothing more than slamming the door with a bunch of keys hanging from the lock! smash

It's taken me years to train my other half that the force required to close the car door, to achieve a successful latching with minimal wear to the door components, is dependent on the air pressure differential either side of the door, and should be adjusted based on whether or not the other door or window are open smile
Err care to share the secret?

My OH can't adjust to different cars needing different pressures to close the doors so my normal approach with all cars is to drop a window a bit before she exits the car she's consequently adjusted the force she applies 8/10 times she's not far off the other 2/10 she apologizes.... I can just about live with that.

My OH used to do this but is now careful after asking her god knows how many times. The boot on my car actually needs to be slowed down when closing or it makes an awful bang, I try not to let anyone else close it.

My mate was giving a lift to his aunt many years ago in his Civic Jordan.

He dropped her off kerbside where she flung the door open and it stopped abruptly on a high pavement fouling the underside of the door. He winced as he imagined the paint damage, but before he could say anything she continued to forcefully push the door into a fully open position, scraping the entire way along the pavement.

Cost a few quid to put right, that one.

This post was prompted by the gf's actions yesterday. Such was the force by which she flung the boot open of the E36 touring, that she's broken the right sided gas strut.
Haha my g/f did exactly this to our E36 Touring about 2 weeks ago! I had only replaced the bloody struts about a week before that and she flung the boot up with so much force that both the gas struts broke! That was £20 down the drain!

Does nobody consider losing their temper once in a while? You know, to remind these self-absorbed idiots you live with that ocassionally you f***ing well mean it when you tell them repeatedly not to do something?

Sometimes the hairdrier treatment is the only language people understand when they've heard and understood what you've said but dismissed your needs and wants as unimportant to them.
Presactly this^

I'm not an angry person and very rarely raise my voice so when I do the girlfriend knows I mean it. When you've asked, then asked again with justification for why you're asking, then told them, there's little left to do but shout so they realise you mean it.

My gf is a door slammer. After she open the passenger door of my RS5 into a wall and I went mental with her about showing a bit of respect for my belongings she's now careful about that but still slams them shut. In her defence her Astra needs a bit of brute force to shut the doors because they're both heavy and the latch appears to be a bit crap.

My wife flung open the door of my (then 2 day old) E65 into a bollard. She then claimed you 'could hardly see' the ensuing crease. I was too angry to reply.

I've taught my girlfriend not to slam doors, but she still uses the top corner of the glass to push the door close, usually just after I've cleaned. Absolutely rage inducing.

I think a complete lack of mechanical sympathy, and lack of understanding of how things work/break is a good shout.

How about also, that many people seem to have no awareness of what's going on around them before they swing the door open. Some woman in a MINI convertible tried very hard to kill me this morning by flinging her car door wide open just as I was passing her. If I hadn't seen the door move out of my peripheral vision, and swerved (no time to brake), it could have been a big accident.

Am I the only one who looks in my mirror before I open the door?

However I have taken on board a few passengers and wondered how the glass survived
This is indeed very frustrating. I find it hard to believe the passenger is totally unaware that they've slammed the door with such force the car shook, the glass barely managed to survive and the bang was that loud my ears are close to bleeding!

A bit of exaggeration, I know, but people amaze me.

I broke down on the motorway last week. Whilst under the bonnet trying to fix the fault, my girlfriend swung the passenger door open hard, and into the barrier, folding the end of the door in. She very nearly had a nice walk down the M4 hard shoulder

It's fine though, because she thinks it will bend out and be good as new and refuses to believe me when I say it definitely won't. Ignore the fact she is a business student, whilst I have an engineering degree so know a few more things about metal

I'm amazed side windows don't get regularly broken by being whacked by buckles.

My girls don't slam car doors, but the trait they do have which really irritates me is ramming the car into 1st (regardless of how much the resistance the gear-lever offers) at any speed below about 20mph as they drive through give-ways. I just can't get them to accept that if the car is rolling 2nd will be fine.

As above. My ex-MIL swung open the door of my two week old Saab 9-5 Aero Hot Estate into the brick chimney stack many years ago. I let rip and it was the last time she set foot in any of my cars.

And it's not just the girls who do this, I know a number of men who have zero mechanical sympathy or 'feel'.

I'm currently holidaying in the Alpes and had a woman open her door on us last Friday. The look we got as if it was our fault for driving in the village. If it wasn't for quick evasive action her Renault would now be very door less and she'd be in hospital

I'm teaching my OH at the moment, she's generally pretty good, but when she does slam the door it's normally with enough force to tip the car the opposite 2 wheels. I now only need to shout "door!" and I get an instant apology and more care. She's brilliant with the boot though, as she's a shortarse and the boot lid opens quite high, she can't reach itsmile

Bonnets, a put onto latch, and then press into positionsmile
