Which is the best hot hatch of all time. Not for it's day, for now.
As in this week.

Not at the Nurburgring on melty tyres, for the road (99%) and a very rare track day for fun.

Performance is what matters. Speed. Brakes. Feeling of sheer power.

Which car kicks ass in your view?

I'd say something like the original Mini Cooper s, or some 80s hot hatch like the ones stated above. Yes some new hot hatches are immensely fast, but they're too refined and driver too cosseted to make them feel as fast as they actually are. Older ones with less sound proofing, thinner doors etc feel more thrilling and faster even if they aren't.

The only thread where MX5 isn't the answer.

My favourite? - 306 Rallye

Possible best performing? - Mk 1 Focus RS

Best package/image? - 205 Gti or Golf Gti

Controversial.

Escort RS Cosworth with a bit of tuning to over 500 BHP.

Mine has less than 300 and is pretty awesome so another 200 must be mind blowing.

are you talking about the best performance outright, or best performance for the money, there are a generation of 300hp+ hot hatches now which sort of make comparisons to anything else fairly pointless.
But at £30k+ the cars themselves seem fair pointless as part of the appeal of a hot hatch in the past has been the affordability.

True but the older pugs proved fwd doesn't have to be no-fun wheel drive. I should get a job writing for a car mag.

In that case, so is an F Type coupe, so I'm going to go with the F Type R.

Do you not remember the nominations thread, poll thread and results thread on the greatest hot hatch ever?
