Jaguar F-Type V8 S: Spotted

Turns out it's good to be bad at retaining value for the F-Type as well!

What with so much attention on the Jaguar F-Type R coupe, the Team Sky car and the potential for a four-cylinder version, the plain old (it's all relative) Roadster has slipped a little from the public attention.

Will this angle ever cease to impress?
Will this angle ever cease to impress?
Well at least until one slopes through a high street or screams along a B-road. The ridiculous noise, stunning appearance and relative rarity of all F-Types mean they all command attention like very few other cars under £100K. That's perhaps a large part of the appeal for many.

But regardless, it would appear enough have been sold for fairly savage depreciation to have already set in. Many suggested Jaguar's pricing looked a little optimistic at launch and, to some extent, that appears to have adversely affected used values.

It's not the base V6 that has dropped most drastically though, but the V8 S instead. Oddly this is the car that seemed to represent the best value as far as power per pound goes in the F-Type range, offering 510hp for £80K. It's been said the V6 S is probably the sweetest match of performance and dynamics in the F-Type Roadster range but to see V8s at £20K less than RRP with not that many miles on has to be worth discussing. We've all seen Harris engulfed in V8 tyre smoke after all.

Spec is hardly undesirable
Spec is hardly undesirable
Of course it will continue to depreciate. Moreover, it will be fascinating to see where F-Types level out but for now the fact that a V8 can be purchased for a little over £60K is very exciting. Presumably not for the unlucky first owner though.

We've all carped on about how wonderful the F-Type is apart from being a little podgy and that will of course stand after just a few miles also. Perhaps the used ones won't be exactly to your optimised spec using Jag's extensive options list but this sort of saving can't really be ignored for the sake of upholstery, can it? And you won't hear any complaints here about black with cream.

Six paragraphs in on an F-Type story and Porsche hasn't been mentioned yet. That must be a record. When 997 GTS Cabriolets are still £70K with more miles than the Jaguar the F-Type is beginning to look even better value. The most affordable 991 is a 350hp Carrera with 26,000 miles at £60K.

Audi R8? Still £65K by the looks of it, this 2011 R Tronic V8 cab the cheapest in the classifieds. An Aston V8 Vantage Roadster for £60K will be a four-year old car.

In fact, the only thing that seem to depreciate like a fast Jaguar is a fast Jaguar. But then who wants an XKR with F-Types this affordable?

Lovely looking thing and pretty good value but still going to lose a fair chunk of cash over the next few years.

If you can afford it though I can't think of many better cars to point at the South of France.

Should reach £30k and within reach of a mere mortal in 5 years. Hopefully.

Ouch. You'd really have to want to spec your own car to consider buying one new.

I think the F Type is simply the most desirable performance car on sale in the UK at this time.

Way out of my price range at the moment, but wathcing used prices and willing them to keep tumbling toward the £30k mark. (apologies to existing owners)

Maybe in a few years...

Sorry to be a spotter but the V8S only has 488bhp not 500+

Only the Coupe gets the full fat engine.

Don't get me wrong. Been out in one, it's not found wanting for anymore power.

So... it's lost £2.6 a mile in depreciation. That is _very_ painful. I can see why they're rare.

edit: Put another way, and assuming it was sold about this time last year, it's lost £45 a DAY which is even scarier.

Remember that £13,000 of that is VAT, which you will never get back..

20% depreciation in a year doesn't sound especially high to me?

seems pretty normal to me...so an article about....not much really ..to tell us that new cars lose a lot of money in depreciation in the first few years ?

if it does well, it might maintain 50% at 3 years old...if its "normal" it might be more like 40%

...bring it on...Jags have always been used performance bargains, and the F type will be a nice buy in 3 years time for sure smile

IMHO - great looking car possibly the best gt for sale at the moment, yes overpriced new (as advised by a Jag salesman) not rare as many on the road around Surrey and will depreciate as all cars do but not as bad as some of the big German barges.

Where will they bottom not sure they will hit £30k for a very long time 360's with space mile ex rental cars are £30-35k Gallardo £50k i appreciate these cars were worth more when new but seem to Plateau.

There are beautiful cars and will definitely be an iconic classic in the future.

The V6S sounds epic on full chat.

I agree. I think it sounds better flying through the rev range where the V8 sounds better 'showing off' for passers by etc. It sounds better burbling and with quick stabs of the throttle rather than flying through the gears.

All personal pref though.

Not sure if it's because I live in Coventry (which is pretty near to where they're made, and of course where Jaguar still have some operations) but I see a hell of a lot of F-Type's on the road.

its just where you live and because you are looking out for them, you think they are common e.g live in Chelsea or kensington and you think all sorts of exotic cars are common too wink

in fact less than 1500 total on UK roads so far.....

Do people who pay £80k for a car really care if they loose £13k in a year? I doubt it.

What if it's bought on the dreaded never never and it's not cost the owner anywhere near £80k?
