Where??
Diesel is on average 6-10p a litre more than petrol in the UK. This is because the greedy bds have worked out a lot of people have switched to diesel from petrol over the years, so they bumped the price of diesel up.
Go to some other countries around the world where diesels are still mainly used for 4x4, trucks, buses etc and the price of diesel is cheaper than petrol.

Now diesel is on a parity with petrol cost per L, this makes even more sense. Brilliant.

Been in many modern diesels; but would not buy one for a runaround or my pride and joy. Drive enough of them at work; don't want a boring as fart vehicle for my daily drive, nor my weekend car.
9 out of 10 of you may have only gone and "get a deeesul" just to save on fuel mpg etc. I could not give two sts about mpg; petrol runs through my veins!!!

Agreed. While I don't like your choice of transport, some of these petrol poofters need to spend some time in a modern diesel. hehe

I think he was just impressed with the interior and ride quality.

I gave a mate a lift the other day. He has an S3. After a conversation about how impressed he was with my Jag, he was then speechless when I told him it was diesel.

+1, a flipping joke. Could they have not done this with a petrol engine.
I think they envisage this sort of thing as "the future". frown

This further confirms my belief that Audis are only made for their first customer. The ownership experience or costs beyond that first customer are completely irrelevant to them.

WRONG, soon the EU will clamp down on diesels due to the amount of particulate matter; which is far worse for humans than petrol.
After 100 years they have finally decided that diesel fumes are carcinogenic. This is based on results found on people who have worked underground with diesel engines for 30 years.

Petrol has always had to have nasty substances added to it to make it work in IC engines. Used to be lead, now its a number of highly carcinogenic substances. Read up on benzene.

Had they put petrol engines underground they would have killed the workers in minutes, due to carbon monoxide it produces, another deadly killer.

I'd love to. But 25k miles a year means I can't. So the diesel means I can have a pretty good version of the V8.
you can, you could buy a cheaper V8 and have money to fuel it.

The most annoying aspect of this for me is the synthesised sound. Can't we get this technology declared illegal on the grounds of misrepresentation!

Well you might as well make all aftermarket exhausts illegal then, some of the 1.2 corsa's running around sounding like touring cars is exactly the same thing!!!

That is right, any car that has a sound generator is as chav/baz as it gets. The only difference today is that the driver thinks that spending 30k on the car makes it ok.

If this was 10 years ago this would be one hell of a topic on barry boys smile

Put the same set-up and a 3.0 V6 petrol and it will sound so much better. Put it on a 3.0 V6 Petrol Turbo and well there is simply no contest.

Now add in the RPM ceiling of the diesel and we come to the same conclusion. They are ste compared to petrol engines for anything other than cruising around and traffic light willy wanging.

Very useful and if I needed an everyday car I'd go and buy an A4 3.0 TDi because they are great for that purpose but putting diesel and RS in the same sentence is wrong on so many levels.

Well driving a turbo petrol I run it it on super or tesco 100 which in turn is the same price of Diesel.

Anyone who claims to be a 'petrolhead' surely runs on the better stuff.

I can understand a diesel in a GT-type coupé (640d etc.) but not in a RennSport Audi, BMW M car etc.
Meanwhile, back in reality, diesels are now used (quite successfully) in actual Rennsport.

Not in my books, diesels have their place but the limitations (of which have been described in this thread) set them apart from the RS philosophy.

Of course Audi are working away at diluting the RS brand so the likes of a diesel can be added into the mix. As what seems an old school petrol head I don't feel that such a dull engine should feature in any manufactures halo sports/racing/tuner brand.
