I was thinking...

When the Zombie Apocalypse comes, I always imagine myself roaring about in something like this...

Or this...

But the reality is, they might demand some serious servicing and maintenance.

The truth is, thhat in the Zombie Apocalypse, the most important thing might be that you need something that will never let you down, even if you have no opportunities to fix it, or put oil in it, etc etc.

So, if you had to pick a car that you would run for as long as possible, but you knew you'd NEVER be able to change the oil / fix anything on it / replace any spare parts, other than the odd roll of gaffer tape and a hammer, what would you pick?

It doesn't have to look cool or carry loads, I'm just wondering what would be the ultimate vehicle to run and run and run without ever lifting the bonnet or doing anything to it whatsoever.

K11 Micra.

Although you may not want to do any offroading in it.

Out of the two picture, the Merc as it should be more reliable than the LR.
And is mechanically probably a bit simpler than the LR.

Easy answer.

"Oliver", or an Opel Kadett.

The toughness of those things was proved by Richard Hammond laugh

Probably wouldn't want to do much travelling, the more times your mobile the more vulnerable you are, plan would be to hold up somewhere safe and fortify that, already got my safe place planned. So would likely only need a LWB transit or something similar, for initial supply runs into populated areas.

A sudden outbreak would mean we would probably have to be something close by , so I would go for my neighbours Shogun Sport Diesel. Go anywhere , tough , reliable and could probably run on veg oil if needed.

Remember what happens when they pick the fast rwd vehicle in the walking dead........

A few people getting the angle of this challenge bang on... and a few massively missing it.

Luckily, anything where you miss the point and the result is a photo of an attack helicopter is fine in my book. hehe

To put it another (non Zombie) way:

Imagine the challenge was that you had to buy a car and use it for ten years, AND pass ten MOTs, but never lift the bonnet AT ALL in that entire time - YET - still do, say, 10,000 miles a year.

No oil, no filters, no plugs, no parts - just fuel.

Could any car survive that..?

Ultimate durability.

Not wanting to turn this into a zombie thread, but anything that makes noise or needs fuel is out. Umm, so a Porsche 918 with a mountain bike on the top for me (-:

I'm not sure you fully read the OP. I doubt an Apache attack chopper is going to be able to be maintained with a hammer and a roll of duct tape tongue out

I'd probably go for something like an original Land Cruiser. Reliable to the point of indestructible and simple to maintain.

4 wheel drive, can not be killed by taxi drivers and a lot of the engine is accessible from the inside.

I don't care what you say about reliability, it's got an anti-EMP modified engine and that for me trumps any logical and sensible argument on cool factor alone.

All it needs for the zombie apocalypse is a plough.
