Hi All,

I've been lurking here for many years, but here goes with my gripping first post.

Why does the Focus MK1 have two different grills?

First it had one with lines:

Then they seemed to 'update' it to this mesh effect one, which most of them seem to have:

I always assumed the mesh was a facelift item, but then I saw this Top Gear review from 1998, so they must have been fitting it to some cars from launch. I then thought the mesh was a Ghia thing, but that seems to be wrong too.

Sorry this is such a dull question, but I've thought about it every time I've seen a Focus for years, ahhhhh. Thank in advance.

It'll be based on trim and/or options. The Ghia and Zetecs definitely get it, but I'd wager there are other trims/options that give it too.

Honeycombe grill is standard on the mk1 of zetec trim.

Ford still do it now, most fiestas and focus have slatted grills then the zetec s has a Honeycombe one

You could also get a wire mesh one as an accessory.

Wire mesh was also standard on the "collection" model.
