Interesting if true and with the history between Porsche vs Piech (attempted hostile takeover) I don’t doubt it one bit...

Both Audi and Porsche are developing a luxury car platform, burning through some $4 billion of mom and dad's (Volkswagen's) money in the process.

Naturally, Porsche seems to think its modular standard platform (MSB), which is slated for the Panamera, would also do well in the Audi A6, A7 and A8. Audi, meanwhile, is happy building its own platform for the three largest cars in its portfolio. It's that sort of stunning inefficiency that can doom manufacturers, and it's certainly not something we'd expect from the Germans.

If the future A8 is to share a platform with A6 and A7 does that mean no more aluminium A8s? Or does it mean the A6 and A7 will end up being aluminium too?

Porsche made brilliantly engineered cars when the engineers were in charge ( with the accountants involved in the process of course ).
With the accountants running the show; the cars are not as well engineered as those from yesteryear.

Accountants do have their place in corporates. Running them; I would argue is not entirely advantageous.

I'd guess the latter - that's the way the market's going (Jag XF will be Aluminium, for example).

Certainly hope so. Interesting engineering, good for emissions and performance, win win other than the extra cost. But greater use of aluminium construction across the model range should drive the unit cost down anyway.

Have Porsche ever dabbled in ally construction before? Or would using an aluminium platform be a first for them?

It's almost like they need a Group Chief Platform Engineer, or equivalent to over-see these development projects.......

So does that mean the A6 up would be RWD as standard rather than FWD? I kinda liked the quirkiness of a longitudinal engine and FWD setup. Understeery as hell (ala my old Passat) of course, but quirky.
