Must have lifts in his shoes. Jodie Kidd is incredibly tall, even in flats.

Wheeler Dealers is a pretty cool classic car show.

Top Gear hasn't been for proper car enthusiasts for so long that it's not even worth remembering the older format. It's so 'gone' it's almost like complaining that Big Brother doesn't appeal to a proper car enthusiast.

Anyway, back on topic. Yes, this new show looks like it may have some potential but seems like it needed the celeb addition to get the production money. Sadly this appears to be TV in general now. Unless it appeals to the lowest common denominator it won't get funding. That's probably the only link to Top Gear we can make here.
Totally. And around here we call it Top Gits...

Its Ok but cool it isnt IMHO. It sits somewhere between FTLOC and those two morons in that London lock-up.

Who in their right minds would buy the car they eventually restore...

BTW - FTLOC was Ok until it became a love-in for Glenister and his mate 'Ant'

There was once a halfway decent classic car programme about 4-5 years ago with a tall guy running and explaining some really nice classics - he was a lesser known presenter / journo but was very informative.

And (showing my age) looking back the original TG was actually a good programme with William Woollard, Chris ? and Sue Baker?

My six cents.

Don't think anyone has mentioned "Petrol Age" yet.

I wonder if there'll be another series...

"Graham Norton, Tinie Tempah, Daisy Lowe and Jessie J". What are these 4 women going to offer the show?

I'll go in with an open mind if/when it is launched, although the entire time Quinten is on telly I'll be thinking "Youre the guy who sells car warranties". A bit like that chap who used to be on Corrie, the only thing he can do now is "you buy one, get one free".

Any how, more car stuff is good. It's inherently a nerdy subject so making it have flavour rather than a dry 30 minutes of viewing is always the challenge for these shows. Compare the early shows of Fast n Loud to that thing with Bernie or Wheeler Dealers - some are much better than others.

Will wait and see, I'm looking forward to it though smile

Don't know what the problem is. I'd much rather see Jodie Kidd in a Dino than some lisping old bloke talking about his Austin Ambassador.

Yes Quentin is a bell, but at least he's a car-bell and not a golf-bell or, gasp, cycling-bell.

Might watch it only because if the same production team behind Top Gear are doing it then the filming will be first rate, might turn the sound off while Quentin "Clocker" Wilson is talking though.
For those saying it won't be made, I doubt the producers would bother if they hadn't already had interest shown from various of their contacts.
My favourite recent classic car show is the Comedians in Cars getting coffee series that is a web only broadcast, sponsored by Lexus but not really dome to make money just a affable sort of meander about the place.

He is certainly one of those TV characters that you would not bat an eyelid if you read that his favourite pastime was inserting sprouts up his arse while singing the Japanese national anthem.

Sounds st. Still it means Quentin can take a break from touting low grade car related products for a while.

Nothing wrong with Jodie Kidd, the lady can walk the walk and is very much part of "our thing".
A gentleman approves of beauty, female, natural, equine or automative.

Let's be honest when you are buying a classic you are to an extent buying a vision of a past lifestyle, often something you admired when younger but which was way beyond your financial reach.
My first time I bought a 1990 635 CSI with 130k on the clock. Yet I felt like a rock star smoking around town looking down that long bonnet at lesser carriges.
There has been a few since.

Some cars are technically interesting, some have race pedigree some are just gorgeous.
Its all a fantasy (see Goodwood) but its not a bad one.

That's the good part. The 'celebrities' with no links whatsoever to car culture on the other hand...

Watching posh people usually irritates me, but I've always enjoyed watching Quentin 'Dracula' Wilson on TV. I like his dry presenting style. I also like Steven Seagal films. So my praise of Wilson is no hallmark of quality.
You must be loving TCM channel this month then, and this weeks Short List

Oddly, I quite like QW too, but just hope this show concentrates more on an interesting variety of cars rather than potentially dull celebs.

If they are taking it to MIPCOM then they haven't sold it yet, which means they haven't made it yet.

All they will have is contracts, agreements, a glossy outline of how amazing it will be once they start spending their client's money and a knocked together visual pitch for the buyers.

One core thing that doesn't add up is the list of UK centric 'celebrities' and then the amazing sales pitch of rolling it out to 13 countries, of which at least 12 won't have a clue or interest in who any of them are and so it has no commercial value.

I think PH is just reporting a commercial sales pitch as the PR agent builds up web traffic (then sold as 'eyeball interest') prior to trying to sell the concept.

Rough production stats suggest there is a less than 5% chance of ever hearing about this pitch again.
Not so. I understand it's pretty much all shot. Made with money up front in the hope of recouping that through worldwide sales. It's a different model for TV production and one that we could see more of in future.

To be watched from behind the settee, like old style Doctor Who. If we could drop QW and let Jodie "have a go" on her own?

I suppose it might just be possible to watch it on a recording and FF through the cringey bits (of which I predict several per episode)

In the end, I'd rather they tried something like this than a new celeb heavy game/reality show "Get My Big Bother Out Of the Jungle" stylee.
