RE: New Classic Car Show coming
Discussion
We shall see......
Glad to see Quentin back on telly, always preferred him to clarkson, with what has the potential to be a decent programme. The 'celebrity fluff' seems to a necessary evil these days to get more mainstream TV to take it on, however no doubt its headed for C5,C4 or discovery. Quite how jodie kidd made money from modelling is beyond but hey ho, thats how it goes I suppose.
As Top Gear heads towards the end of its enevitable lifespan another programme(s) will need to step up and take over. An intelligent, non dumbed down offering like this could be just the ticket, only time will tell.

To be watched from behind the settee, like old style Doctor Who. If we could drop QW and let Jodie "have a go" on her own?
I suppose it might just be possible to watch it on a recording and FF through the cringey bits (of which I predict several per episode)
In the end, I'd rather they tried something like this than a new celeb heavy game/reality show "Get My Big Bother Out Of the Jungle" stylee.
Am I alone in finding the fascination with Jodie Kidd perplexing?I suppose it might just be possible to watch it on a recording and FF through the cringey bits (of which I predict several per episode)

She was a catwalk model because she was 8 ft tall and funny looking. That's what they like on the catwalk apparently. I always thought she looked like a bloke in drag. If you meet her in person it's even more pronounced. I know this is very un PC and incredibly shallow so I appologise to all I've offended. And yes before the comments come rolling in, I'm no oil painting either and she can't help the way she looks etc. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I just find it strange when she's constantly referred to as a beauty.
As for her love of cars. Of course this should be applauded but somehow it just grates on me.
She rates her driving just a little too much. I distinctly remember seeing her in an interview where she confidently referred to occupation as 'racing driver' when in fact she was bringing up the rear in the Maserati Trophy race series - before a 'career' ending shunt at 180 mph (the cars could barely reach that speed on a circuit and she crashed at about 100mph less than that). It was a nasty shunt and I'm sure it felt like 180mph but why did she feel the need to exaggerate so ridiculously?
Overall She just comes across as a bit too cocky for somebody with no discernable talent.
I have nothing against confident women - I love Sabine's attitude - but then she can walk the walk too...
Rant over.
I'm sure she's a lovely person when you get to know her and I am a sexist pig for commenting on her appearance etc.
Either way I have no interest in watching her present a glitzy car show.

Don't forget skinny, many of the top catwalk models are not what most men would think of as the pinnacle of beauty, whatever that is, but there job is as a moving clothes horse and most of the time the clothes are bought by other (wealthy) women so that seems to be the look the fashion houses are after. She was a catwalk model because she was 8 ft tall and funny looking. Its Ok but cool it isnt IMHO. It sits somewhere between FTLOC and those two morons in that London lock-up.
Who in their right minds would buy the car they eventually restore...
BTW - FTLOC was Ok until it became a love-in for Glenister and his mate 'Ant'
There was once a halfway decent classic car programme about 4-5 years ago with a tall guy running and explaining some really nice classics - he was a lesser known presenter / journo but was very informative.
And (showing my age) looking back the original TG was actually a good programme with William Woollard, Chris ? and Sue Baker?
My six cents.
Many old clips are on Youtube, you must see the Clarkson and the Rolls Phantom for a real laugh, he's not aged well.

Watching posh people usually irritates me, but I've always enjoyed watching Quentin 'Dracula' Wilson on TV. I like his dry presenting style. I also like Steven Seagal films. So my praise of Wilson is no hallmark of quality.
You must be loving TCM channel this month then, and this weeks Short Listhttp://www.shortlist.com/entertainment/films/a-tou...
Oddly, I quite like QW too, but just hope this show concentrates more on an interesting variety of cars rather than potentially dull celebs.

If they are taking it to MIPCOM then they haven't sold it yet, which means they haven't made it yet.
All they will have is contracts, agreements, a glossy outline of how amazing it will be once they start spending their client's money and a knocked together visual pitch for the buyers.
One core thing that doesn't add up is the list of UK centric 'celebrities' and then the amazing sales pitch of rolling it out to 13 countries, of which at least 12 won't have a clue or interest in who any of them are and so it has no commercial value.
I think PH is just reporting a commercial sales pitch as the PR agent builds up web traffic (then sold as 'eyeball interest') prior to trying to sell the concept.
Rough production stats suggest there is a less than 5% chance of ever hearing about this pitch again.
Not so. I understand it's pretty much all shot. Made with money up front in the hope of recouping that through worldwide sales. It's a different model for TV production and one that we could see more of in future. All they will have is contracts, agreements, a glossy outline of how amazing it will be once they start spending their client's money and a knocked together visual pitch for the buyers.

The only way I can see this having been done is if the money was raised via mug punters and boiler rooms like they do with films and other amazing investments.
It seems insane for intelligent money to back this. Especially when the sales pitch is to make big profits from selling overseas and yet they have used celebrities that have almost no relevance outside of England.

Wow, the. Build it, they will come business model. The backer must have an unusually casual view of total loss.

All of which is fine, but Wheeler Dealers is now exported worldwide only bettered by TG, so there has to be a market surely? The only way I can see this having been done is if the money was raised via mug punters and boiler rooms like they do with films and other amazing investments.

Yes but it's the sales pitch. If you are making it celebrity focussed to vend to fruit and veg punters then if you want to sell it to overseas fruit and veg punters then you need celebs they have knocked one out to in their version of the Daily Mail or Express etc. Using local celebrities is going to hamper not enhance overseas sales.
It's why the TG section is cut out and replaced by advertising slots.
