New Classic Car Show coming

Celeb-heavy car show taps into top-end love for expensive classic motors

Just how much have you missed Quentin Wilson's permanently cocked eyebrow and oil-slick smooth tones? Oh. Alright, what about Jodie Kidd, here reverting back to more glamorous type rather than sweating away in the Celebrity Masterchef kitchen?

The pair are hosting a new programme with the self explanatory title The Classic Car Show. Based in a studio at Brooklands, the 13-part series - optimistically described as 'landmark' in the accompanying press bumph - promises "a supporting cast of global A-list celebrities" and "movie production values, attitude and humour." Trigger finger hovering over the kill switch? Wait! It features such well-known car pundits as Graham Norton, Tinie Tempah, Daisy Lowe and Jessie J.

Oh.

Bruno Senna sections sound more up our street

There are glimmers of hope. Derek Bell driving a 962 at Le Mans and a Brabham BT11 at the Monaco Historique sounds more promising and Bruno Senna "putting 10 classics through their paces on a racetrack" could yet rescue the show from what sounds like a lot of fawning at multi-millionaire 'lifestyle' fluff. We shall see in January, even if the press release doesn't actually specify who will be airing the show.

You won't have to wait as long as that for the return of Harris to your screens though. He hasn't been idle in the weeks since we last had one of his videos and, rest assured, more PH-worthy viewing material with fewer supermodels but more tyre smoke will be online shortly.

For more info and the trailer see the official website.

Love the cars, can't stand the whole celebrity idolisation, this mentality is particularly prevalent on US TV as a method to drive people to make money they don't need and strive for a truly materilistic life they also don't need. For that reason I'll probably avoid.

Well summed up by 'fawning at multi-millionaire 'lifestyle' fluff'...

I'm loving the influx of car shows recently

Firstly "For The Love Of Cars" on channel 4

Then "Car S.O.S" on channel 4

Keep them coming smile

Apologies 'Want that Car', still the worst car TV programme ever made...

The trailer looks more like a taster tape (sizzle reel) for TV networks rather than a trailer for viewers. The voice over comment at the end of it indicates they are still looking for a TV network to show it although they seem to have filmed a lot of it already.

Doesn't look that great a show but it cannot be any worse than Bernie and Mario on Classic Car bodge up.

In my view it's somewhat like the ever-increasing prevalence of DIY shows prior to the housing peak and collapse. Increasingly more people seem to be discussing classic cars at the moment.

'The Classic Car Show will be formally launched at MIPCOM in Cannes in October. Its unique format brings a truly global perspective to viewers while its multi-million pound production budget means the cars and personalities featured receive the gloss HD treatment they deserve.

From January 2015, The Classic Car Show will be globally released in 13 x 1-hour/26 x 30-minute episodes.'

looks like someone has spent a lot of money, hoping to get aired in lots of counties..

When do we see a 13 part Harris show on telly?

I'm sure he could "manage" Jodie Kidd. Even if she is about 3feet taller......

I think Quentin has some 'Sarkozy' heels on to keep her in check...

I should be excited about a new car show.

However.. I know I'm clearly more aligned to the sort of beardy adenoidal car geek that Clarkson likes to mock at every opportunity. I just wish these shows were more technical / factual than packed with 'A list celebrities' and 'hollywood type budgets' - I just want to know about cars, to see how they fix cars, to learn the more technical / intricate stuff. The rest of it is just meaningless garnish.

God knows they make enough dumbed down dross for the masses (X Factor, Britains Got Talent), is it too much to ask to have something a bit more high brow?! frown

One thing's for sure; you can guarantee that the word "investment" will feature in pretty much every comment Quentin makes.

NB: anyone else think this thread was about a new exhibition, rather than a TV show?

Doesn't work for me.

I mean literally. The show-reel is broken.

Tin foil hat time. Perhaps a consortium of wealthy car collectors have funded the show in order to get classic cars more exposure, make them even more desirable, make them worth even more money!

Sounds more like a training video than entertainment. I wouldn't call it high brow. Fixing cars isn't exactly Glyndebourne, but you can find plenty of it on you tube. I can't see it getting much of an audience if it was on TV.

I've been trying (and failed) to find a photo of Jay Kay's Enzo in the car park at Goodwood. IIRC he'd just picked it up, it was black with a green interior, and Jodie Kidd had just beaten his time around the top gear track.

In the grassy dust of a dry summers day car park, someone had written with their finger on his bonnet "Jodie went faster".

I followed them around Bond Street, London a Sundays back. Clearly world class production indeed. They were filming from the back of a big Rangie, just like Top Gear. I made sure to try and bmw z3 m coupe photobomb their filming of an old Aston DB#?.
