Black Edition normally means you get a sh*t load of black extras - clues in the name.

so in terms of your Ibis white 'Black Edition' - blacked out grills rather than chrome, tinted windows, etc.....

Mostly a cosmetic package rather than a performance one.

'Black Edition' to me means mentalist nutter bd AMG ??
I think Ford were doing Black special editions before AMG cottoned on to the moniker

The Fiestas had black leather trim and black paint so not quite as performance oriented as the AMGs though!

How is it pointless if people want them and buy them? I'm sure people don't buy them to say they have a limited edition, probably just because they like the look of them.
Sorry in my opinion its pointless and the white one is in my opinion completely impractical as it has white cloth interior. You don't have to be a person with poor hygiene for that soon to look dreadful.

That looks a really nice little car
Well the girlfriend thinks its nice and she's the one paying for it so thats all that counts. With the gaping mouth and the DRL's it looks like a bottom feeding fish imo.

In all honnestly the biggest problem with hers is its white, and the fact that she thinks its acceptable to put her feet all over my cars dash, leaving rubbish in there and that since shes bought it I've had to ferry all the stuff the essential to having a horse because she's bought a car totally impractical for what she needed. :mild rant over:

Reads to me like your girlfriend bought what she wanted, and not what you wanted.

Like you said, it's her money.

Pretty sure AMG cars are black series not black edition.

Pretty sure Toyota did Blue, White and "fire" editions of the Aygo. Similar idea.

Just a few extra bits of trim to make the car look special/different.

Porsche and Ferrari make 'fire' models, GT3 and 458 spring to mind.

Vauxhall also do the white edition as far I'm aware the white one is 1.4, 18inch alloys, white leather bolsters and white cloth centres and completely pointless. But are lapped up by girls who can say they have a limited edition.

How do you know I hear you ask? the gf has the white edition, no you can't have pictures, no we dont agree it was the right car.

I saw one of those Adam White Editions the other day, really nice looking little car smile

I think Ford Black Editions are usually really well specced run-out models released just before a new model is released. I do, however, stand to be corrected!
I don't know about "Black Edition", but Ford did a Focus Ebony, which was basically a black Focus with all the extras.

I thought this thread was going to be about the special version of the current hot hatch crowd, much like the AMG Blacks are the top shelf versions of the AMG line.

The Fiesta has just had two new specs added and 'Red' and a 'Black' addition. They are effectively a Fiesta Zetec S in red with black bits or black with some red bits, however it comes with a more powerful version of the 3-pot 1.0L engine, 140ps instead of the current most powerful 1.0 at 125ps.

First i saw a 'black edition' Corsa, this was a warm-hatch, not as hot as the VXR, but not as tame as a 1.2, Then there was a 'Black edition' Fiesta, in a similar position, Now i have just seen a 'Black edition' Civic.

What is this trend? if they are all trying to target the same market, why have car makers not thought of something a little more original?

Has anyone bought a 'black edition' of car if so, what was the appeal?
It is a marketing wheeze to bump up pricing / profits or cement loyalty. Been around for years.

The colour black, in most of the world, is usually associated with "premium" quality or pricing. It is why most home TVs, the centre of your home, are black.

And "edition", "series", etc. all denote limited availability, hence exclusivity.

I hadn't heard of them so I doubt a Toyota-Aygo-buyer is likely to have either. I don't think Toyota chose the names based on their sporting "heritage", just a catchy name with a buzz to it.

  • Not actual reason why TVs are black.

Anything with the word 'edition' helps sell cars. People are made to feel special by owning something which is a little bit more unique (although often produced in vast numbers).

The trim levels L, GL, GLX, XS, XSi, GTi et al are just not enough to generate much interest with the public any more. Nobody is satisfied unless they are buying into something sprinkled with glitter, even if it is a turd.
