My take on ‘over engineering’ is that components are so sturdy and tested, having probably evolved, like switches in a Toyota. It should not be associated with complexity or gimmickry, which is a bugbear of new cars. Materials will be of the best quality , obviously with a price limit. This is why we see so many ‘unsexy’ cars on this thread like old Mercedes and Volvos.
