Statistics of accidents by age of driver of working age:

Under 25 : 4,500
26-34 : 3,270
35-44 : 2,910
45-54 : 2,720
55-64 : 1,710

these are from the US but the trend is the same here, older drivers are safer drivers.

80mph on a motorway is dawdling. By all means do it (while keeping left when not actively overtaking), but I wouldn't be surprised to be getting passed, by anyone without a speed limiter.

Brings to mind the scene in "Fancy a Lift Old Boy" when Stirling Moss has a 'chat' with the camera crew in the modern Merc about their unwillingness to keep up with him on the road hehe

Maybe limit on power the younger ANC older you are too
If you ban from driving all people who like to wear hats then both the troublesome youths and pensioners would be off the road. biggrin

My father drives everywhere at a quintillion miles an hour because he says he finds it more exciting. Can't really argue with that.

I assume they aren't corrected for miles driven.

I doubt anyone has that information but one thing is clear from any statistics you look at - and a certain amount of common sense - is if you want to get bad drivers off the road focus on the young. Of course doing that means that they never get the practice with which to get better but it's pretty unarguable if you look into it that a 50 year old driver tends to be a lot better on the road (but perhaps not the track) than a 20 year old.

Is it, or is it just clear that a driver with 3 years experience tends to be a lot "better" on the road than a driver with 33 years experience?

Given that the former is far more likely to crash, as supported by the insurance premium if you believe nothing else, then it is not clear.

I'll think about your moaning of old ladies driving 85 mph this week when I'm on the autobahn at 140+ in a car with 2.5 times less power than yours. hehe

Last year I was overtaken by a young girl in a Ford KA doing 100+ mph between Munich and Cologne. beer

You drive a GTR and you're scared above 80? Time to swap for a 116d.

ETA: You have a stage 4, so lets make that 3 times more powerful. ears
