When I first opened this thread I thought the hate was for SUVs with Summer House conversions!!
That's what I thought too, then I thought it was for flatulent VW dealers!

Dynamics ? The PT cruiser is st to drive and st to sit in, and the looks are icing made of pooh on a cake make of pooh.

Pointlessness ? That Cockroach? The Golf is a more practical car, the favorit was cheaper, and the TT more beautiful, and the second attempt is a pastiche of lardyness

Cube ? It's Just odd. The Kia Soul looks similar but nicer.

And the Micra with attitude ? I'd rather a Daihastsu thing - copen?cupon? that is smaller and funkier.

So why is there so much hate for cars that are designed purely to be different?
Until you cite an example of one I couldn't possibly tell you. All the cars you have shown are hideous pastiches/hommages to something else or built, in the case of the cube, to fulfil a brief. None, as far as I can tell, fits your description.

Despise the PT Cruiser, it just looks like an British car desperately trying to be 60s American cool.

Despise the VW Beetle, just because it looks weird. I have to admit, I like the latest one, it doesn't look that bad at all, but the previous generations were just terrible. They gave birth to the most stupid car accessory too (flower vase in the dashboard, anyone?)

I like the Cube, it's awesome. It's not trying to look good, and appeal. It just does. That's why I like the Figaro too, it just seems to appeal effortlessly, rather than trying. And you have to admit, it's lovely to see cars that are out of the ordinary too.

This is my friends one, she's had a few wee mods to it. I absolutely love it. It looks so ridiculous, especially lowered, looks like a hovercraft going about the place smile

That looks pretty good actually. Shame they're quite plain inside - they need to take notes from Citroen!

These along with the Fiat 500 are perfect examples of the triumph of 'style' over function. These cars are no longer engineered they are styled.

So in conclusion it isn't really so much "hate for different" as "hate for turds rolled in glitter"?

Available in the UK as a Daihatsu Materia, although you have to look pretty hard to find one!
