Yesterday I contacted a seller about a BMW e90 M3. Now I got this answer:
First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my car. I've almost reached an agreement with a potential buyer. Unfortunately, it looks like there are some problems and he doesn't have all the money to pay, for the moment. The car is still available for sale, it is in extremely good condition,100% HPI Clear, full service history. Currently I am on a business trip to Italy and will have to stay here for about 6 months (this is why I am selling the car for a low price and I am looking for a fast sale to finance the Italian project ). I left the car in Peter's Transport custody ( www.peter-transport.co.uk ) and they will handle the sale for me. The V5 log book is already signed on my behalf, the car will come with 2 keys, all service records and previous MOT's. Peter's Transport will deliver the car directly to your home address and I will pay all delivery expenses.
If you are interested in purchasing the car just contact Peter's Transport department that handles the sale directly at: traffic@peter-transport.co.uk and they will assist you with any questions you might have regarding the transaction
When contacting the Peter's Transport please specify my name ( Caroline Whyley ) and the car make and model.

There are plenty of dealers & independents providing liquidity for people who want to sell their cars, cars are pretty standardised commodities, so if you see one for sale that is a notable % below market value, there is usually something funny going on.

I think its a certain type that gets scammed.

It's like those TV programs where people pay a builder £20k for 'materials' who then turns up, wrecks the place and then can't be found.

Obviously there will be the poor people who have learning difficulties that are genuinely ripped off, but the rest just seem to be asking for it with the way they freely hand out money on trust.

"Following the exchange of a few emails with the seller directly a process was started whereby i was requested by what looked like authentic piston heads email chain, (authentic looking banners etc) to deposit the money into an escrow account owned by piston heads, who would hold the money on behalf of the seller. The seller claimed to want a quick sale in order to work abroad and that piston heads would handle the sale."

None of that worried the OP spin

The Porsche 996 is clearly a scam. That car has the X51 factory power upgrade, which would obviously effect price but the seller must have forgot. Also the fact that it is 1/3 the price of a car with similar age and millage is a giveaway.

Also the BMW X3, it's weird. According to UKvechicle, the car was for sale last month for £4100, then last week for £6100 then this week for £4800. Weird huh, but whats the worst that could happen.

That's freaking clever - so if that is the case I'll give them 10/10

The only way these scams succeed is greed on the part of those being scammed, if it looks to good to be true is normally is.
