You'd have thought governments with their access to the best scientific advisors would be willing to invest in the idea... but unsurprisingly they resort to the stick rather than the carrot. Maybe government doesn't really believe it...I don't drive to work because the train is quicker and less stressful than the drive. I do drive to visit family 250 miles away because it is more reliable, cheaper, faster and we can easily take all the clobber a young family "needs" that would be a nightmare on the train.

You're getting all sorts of sarcastic answers plus my slightly more direct ones but you've come to the wrong place to preach. We here enjoy driving as much as you enjoy masturbating. If you're on a mini crusade to save the planet there are millions of other car users you should start with. The milages we, on Pistonheads, do for our own enjoyment are nowhere near as much as they should be. Some of us commute by car, some by rail, some by bicycle or whatever. We actually *enjoy* beautiful or powerful or great handling cars though - they are a passion, a hobby and an interest for us. Your toxic chemical pseudoscience will not remove our fundamental enjoyment of nice cars.
If you weren't such an idiot in your approach you may have achieved some intelligent discussion on how to reduce emissions and energy use for the daily humdrum but frankly you're not capable of tackling a perceived problem with any sort of strategy or means of winning people over. You have a long way to go before you're even close to engage car enthusiasts in a sensible discussion.
