Going by pic in profile it's a Citroen C1, or a construction site driving

Really hard to tell from the description, a recording would help.
Does it only happen if you "blip" up to high revs?
Is it louder with the window down?
Is it coming from the exhaust? Is your cat f**ked?
Is it coming from the foot well? Is your pedal catching a piece of trim?

Is it noticeable when you're moving, when you lift off to change gear?

What does "gear in gear out" even mean? Are you saying it only happens if you go into gear then back into neutral?

- Not high rev's. Literally 2,000 say.

Is it louder with the window down?
- Yes
Is it coming from the exhaust? Is your cat f**ked?
- sounds like towards the front. It could be the Cat?

Is it coming from the foot well? Is your pedal catching a piece of trim?
- Front front well/underneath/engine? Not trim. Definitely mechanical/engine.

I wish I owned a X-Type.
X-Type? Uh.. ok..

Sounds like you've got a bit of a leak around your cat or your manifold. Could be exhaust mounts are gone and it's just pulling away, could be the cat has split somewhere, could be leaking where the manifold meets the block, although it tends to be more of a farty noise around manifolds imho.. not sure why.

Aux drive belt tensioners have a habit of snapping back with sudden deceleration, letting the belt
flap for a split second causing a crack or snap sound as it either hits something close or tension returns.

The same can be said for timing belts hitting the inside of plastic covers.

If it's multiple crack-crackle-cracks rather than just one crack then I'd put it down as cat blowing, might help to get someone else to blip it while you listen with the bonnet up, you can even look for things flapping about then. Just don't stick your hands in smile

eta: don't stick anything in wavey
