Got home from work today to find a logbook from DVLA for a car I have no knowledge of - a 2002 Kia Sedona Estate!!

Hopefully it's just an error. I've spoken with DVLA and I need to return the logbook to their 'Sensitive Case' team. I did buy a new car (and sell my old one) around the time that i 'acquired' this one. Strange thing is, the former registered keeper lives a few miles from me (whereas I bought my car from a dealership a few hundred miles away, so not a dealer registration error).

Anyone had this happen to them? Any chance this could be part of some kind of fraud?

Cheers

We had stuff from the DVLA with our address and our neighbours names on it shortly after they moved in, and then again for people up the road when they moved in. Some people just seem to struggle knowing what their addresses are.

Ok i'll look at this from a different angle. Have you had a history of hard drugs or alzheimers in the family?

Take out an insurance policy then report it stolen. Don't say I told you do do that.

I knew it! I always thought that's how people end up with Kias. It has to be some unconscious act smile

Seriously though, anything in particular I should do? I'm sending a letter to DVLA tomorrow by recorded delivery and keeping a copy of the letter and logbook. Do I notify the police about a potential fraud, or wait to see if anything else happens?

Shame it wasn't for something sexy, you could have come on here proclaiming you owned a this that or other and custard tested it with the V5 :-)

What a sorry assed excuse for a mode of transport that it, KIA shoud be deeply ashamed.

Somebody is being a bit cheeky. They've used your name and address as the owner of a car they have probably just bought. Watch out for various traffic offence fines to follow. If i was you i would let Dibble know just in case.

Sounds like the OP bought a Kia Sedona drunk off eBay and is now trying to hide his shame....

This

Probably worth handing over a copy of the documents you're sending back to the DVLA to the local police office too just to be crystal clear that this isn't your car.

Ain't she pretty!?

Spoke to the local police and there's nothing they're prepared to do about it at this stage. They wouldn't even make a record of the situation. Only thing they said was that my call was recorded so if there ever was any issue down the line, they could retrieve the call. I guess it's better than nothing.

Car fraudulently (potentially) registered in my name and it has to be a bloody Kia!! Could add an entry in the 'knob' thread too!

Get it reported to the plod and get the DVLA to remove you as the owner asap.

Is it your birthday soon? Do you have a really rather kind if not slightly automotively... disadvantaged friend/relative?

Perhaps they've bought it for you and cocked up their timing somewhat.

Or do you have a broody girlfriend/fiancée/wife who might be trying to send a message?
