Hi everyone, my dad is thinking of replacing his hateful Insignia diesel to get away from the DPF problems he's had! He wants something petrol, same kind of size, at the least the same power (160hp), 3 years old and a budget of £13k.

Have thought about the Octavia VRS, great car and very tempting but I cant think of anything else that would fit the bill!

Mazda 6 2.5?

Coming from diesel would he prefer turbo though?

How much is economy/£500 road tax a factor?

I love my VRS, terrific car for the money.
Bit smaller in the cabin than a Vectra though, more Golf sized but counterpointed by a massive boot.

Got the latest version, superb and by all account the last one was too. Imagine you'd get a good one for less than the budget?

Yeah he definitely wants something a bit of torque so definitely a turbo. He'd want something that did at least early 30's mpg average and the road tax isnt a huge problem

BMW 320i. Not sure if any of the six cylinder cars would sneak under that cost/age.

Not sure if you could find a petrol SEAT Exeo but that could fit the bill too.

Looking at around the same area myself. Skoda Superb 4X4 1.8 TSI. Passat and Passat CC with the same engine and the Volvo S60 come straight to mind. The Octavia also came with the VW Turbo 1.8 Including the 4x4 Scout.

Yeah the 1.8tsi could work pretty well for him, although he may prefer the extra punch of the 2.0tsi as he often tows

There is the Superb 3.6 V6 but that is DSG only. It will tow well though. The Mondeo Ecoboost will be in that area of Power as well.

Well, they are dull, but they are good cars if you want a petrol family wagon.

If you want something exciting, look elsewhere.

I don't class myself as a badge snob BUT ........I couldn't own anything with a Skoda badge on. I know it's just a badge and all that guff

I opted for the Passat CC V6 4 motion, DSG is awesome, sounds nice, goes like stink when required. Wouldn't mind trying a Toureg next
