My Discovery has a triple sunroof, used it once to see if it worked.

Can't stand the sun beating down in the cabin, air con for me.

I'm a big fan of the sun roof. I think it's a great feature. smile

All my E36s (2x saloons and 1x touring) had/have a sunroof.

On the motorway, the tilt function allows fresh air into the cabin at speed. Around town the full open function gives you a semi-convertible (I actually don't mind full open at speeds <80mph).

My favourite set up is sunroof fully open with aircon on (best of both worlds!).

One of the issues with the sunroof/BMW 3 series (late E36 and all E46) was that iirc a/c ended up being a no cost option with the deletion of a sunroof. Most people went for the aircon. As such, it's actually quite rare to find late E36s/any E46s with both.

On the E30, the 'connoisseurs' will tell you the sunroof is an undesirable option - rust potential and compromising the chassis rigidity are the oft quoted reasons.

Sunroof FTW! biggrin
I have a '98 E36 with Aircon and a Sunroof.

I love having the sunroof. It gets left open during work and helps to keep the car slightly cooler. If it's too hot then the aircon gets switched on.
Most of the later '98,99 E36s I know of have both sunroof and AC
I always choose a sunroof model if possible, I like aircon too so aircon AND sunroof/moonroof ( with internal blind ) is ideal

My Golf has one, but it is a rare option. I like the lighter cabin, the tilt option is great for quiet ventilation or to just leave the car to vent a little heat, and the slide option is nice and airy BUT horrible buffeting and vibrations on the move unless you have a couple of windows open too! Bit flawed in that respect, plus they aren't really that bit - twin sunroofs or webastos give a more soft top feel.

Like glass sunroofs (moonroof.....) I love the extra light in the cabin, but can live with a steel one as long as it slides and tilts

Only car i have without one has a folding roof

It's normally No'1 on the list of things the next car must have, I've had very few cars without one in 30 plus years and the ones that haven't haven't been stayed with me very long

Don't like sunroofs.

Do like convertibles.
You can break Into a Cossie through the sunroof? hehe
Owned that for over 7 years, opened sunroof once I believe.

Owned a convertible for 20 months, roof down whenever possible.
Leaving Bournemouth yesterday I was very envious of anyone in a 'vert. Flies in teeth motoring is lovely. Unless you're cold and mardy...

Absolutely love the sun-roof (or moon-roof?) but have no interest in convertibles, and hardly ever use air-con. On cold, dry winter days turning the heat up and sliding the roof back is one of life's little indulgences for me

Clearly no hardcore Pistonheads have read this thread yet. Holes in the structure equals less rigidity in the chassis wink Would never order a fast sports car with a sunroof!

What's wrong with rolling down the window or a full on convertible anyway? Never seen the point in sunroofs myself personally.

Ditto except I tend to drop the roof into the boot and really enjoy it

Love having a sunroof and was just thinking today that I'll not buy my next car without a sunroof.

For me it's the combination of light and airiness and the fresh air. A/C is useful on a mega hot day or in traffic, but in general I'd much rather have a sunroof (the OR option being often what was a offered in 90s)

I wish my Focus had a sunroof, instead of aircon.

In 1996 ford started offerring owners a sunroof OR aircon in the LX range. (Company car)

Until then you only got a sunroof.

By 1998 aircon was the standard for LX and the sunroof an extra unless you had a Ghia variant.

It's around the same time that all manufacturers started dropping sunroofs for aircon in all but their premium ranges.

The 944 I had had a huge sunroof, which lifted out and into the boot. Not the most practical, but wonderful on a warm sunny day

My Stepdad's Mondeo Ghia X has a sunroof, air-con and heated seats. I guess that makes it slightly desirable as he hates it!

Maybe it's the beer. But I'd give a nad for a sunroof.

(I'm buying daily drivers in that horrible got air con so doesn't need a sun roof period)

Sun roof is great for keeping a car cool if you are forced to park it in direct sunlight. It also cools the cabin down very quickly when combined with open windows. Real air is much nicer than air con.
