Is it stupid to drive a nice car?
Discussion
Miles do come into play at the highest end but then the rest are either utter sheds or well used but some repairs over looked while others are used and used well but as new condition high level of preventative maintenance.
Frankly given the bodywork is sound then there is no reason why any car cannot keep going

Nice pics, really liked that. Enjoy!

A couple of days ago, whist chatting, someone said I was stupid to use my car in this way. They seemed to think a sedate Sunday morning drive, before returning home to wash and wax my ''investment'' was a far more sensible idea.
When/if the classic car bubble bursts, the investors will have a pile of bills for up-keep and that's it. You'll have a similar pile of bills and some priceless memories. Tough choice .I have a Morgan that I bought 'tired', had restored, drove 160,000 miles in and now it is 'tired' again. I think you would call it 'patina', but I know that it is more likely called rough!
That car has done everything, long trips through France, a bit of hill climbing, gymkhanas, commuting, visiting clients, touring with the wife, touring with son, whatever. It's part of the family and part of me.
It will be rebuilt again and run as a high days and holidays car as some parts are getting a bit rare - (indicator stalk, kettering ignition parts with any quality).
Cars that don't get used always strike me as a wicked waste. It need to work and be used to live! Morgans often do minimal miles, less than 2000 a year is not that uncommon, which strikes me as very sad. If you wanted an ornament, buy glassware! Come to that, my wife has some glass ornaments that have done more miles than some Morgans!

They seemed to think a sedate Sunday morning drive, before returning home to wash and wax my ''investment'' was a far more sensible idea. I told them the story of seeing my first example as a younger man and the impression it left on me, but they just didn't get it. I said that I felt it was almost a responsibility for the owners of such cars to let them be seen, but more importantly heard!, doing what they were built for.
A couple of snaps from last weekend. The 02's have a bit more go, thanks to being stroked to 2.2, Schrick cam etc.
I would say use it and enjoy it Mark, that's what you waited for so it would seem a shame not to make the most of it.A couple of snaps from last weekend. The 02's have a bit more go, thanks to being stroked to 2.2, Schrick cam etc.
I've had similarly old cars and they usually do better the more you use them( rather than being left in a garage all the time )
It looks a lovely old car
The lovely weather at the moment helps enormously plus I bet you, like me, have quick and easy access to roads that people in London can only dream about
Funnily enough I was going up to Lostwithiel this morning, to watch the local rally, when I got a front puncture. I made it into the Shell garage a few yards further up and rang the RAC for a hand and whilst sat there had a few people stop and chat. An Evo 6 driver, an e46 M3 and a TVR amongst a sea of diesel Aldi and caravans or VW transporters, that have all been styled to be individual, to the extent they all look the same!
Personally I like all cars but I know I'm lucky to drive my old e30. It's a pain in the arse trying to get a 235/40r17 on a Sunday in Cornwall though!

Should have shouted, I have such a tyre in my shed, it's not a premium by any stretch but it's round, black and legal and you could have had it for nowt.Personally I like all cars but I know I'm lucky to drive my old e30. People who have nice cars and don't drive them are stupid.
This, I'm valeting an F458 next week. 6 months old and still on its first tank of fuel.Echoing earlier comments, cars are made to be driven; sporting or "interesting" cars are meant to be driven. The only exception is a Montego that I drove a good few years back. That was never intended to be used in any form.

Unless the car is very fragile/rare or very difficult to maintain and rebuild (e.g. BRM V16?), all cars should be driven properly.
Enjoy your new car!
About 6 years ago I bought what was as near as it could be a showroom condition Honda S2000 GT, it was only 18,000 miles and had been a pride and joy for the previous owner who bought it new. In a year I did 3,500 miles in it, most of the time it sat in my garage whilst I used my other car.
I regret not using it more, the sad part was that I sold it because I wasn't using it, at the time I had no children and lots of time on my hands!
Dur
Given the opportunity now I'd have used it as much as I could.
