Anyone know how long it takes the DVLA to process a road tax refund?

Recently changed my car, and as part of the deal it was agreed that I’d apply for a refund of the tax disc on my part exchange. However, due to having a personalised registration, the new tax did hadn’t been received by the time I collected the new car. Have spoken to the dealer and they’ve advised me that the tax disc was received by them 2 weeks ago, and that they returned it for a refund (on my behalf, of course) on 15/07. Still not had anything back, and have checked the DVLA website which shows that the car is still taxed.

Don’t fancy losing a month worth of tax at around £40, but just want to know if this is normal. Is it likely that the dealer’s just attempting to fob me off, or is the DVLA ridiculously slow these days when it comes to this sort of thing? Could it be that there website is not up to date and that the cheque’s in the post?

I’ll give them a call when I get a chance, but would be helpful to hear from others who’ve done this sort of thing lately.

Thanks.

Took about 3 weeks when we got a refund in May.

Not sure how dealer got your disc back though as all old car paperwork would have your name & address so it should all come to you direct from Swansea as there are no longer local offices.

Refunds are only given on full months after the disc arrives with DVLA so in theory if they posted it today you would probably lose August too.

Just shy of a month, for the one I got back a week or so ago - posted about a week before the end of the month, and processed correctly.

If it went in the post after 1/7, then you'll get a refund of August onwards. No partial month refunds.

Cheers guys, looks like I'm being a bit keen so I'll leave it a bit longer.

I'm hoping they'll have the application in hand, so this means I'll get August back.

In the same boat, sent paperwork off 2 weeks ago, as of yet heard nothing and car is still showing as taxed, and it's getting nearer the end of the month mad

Great isn't it? Tax disc? Six Months up front please.
Credit card? That'll be £2.95 more.

Refund? One month wait.

Last two cars I never got the money back, said they didn't receive the tax disc back I sent them.

It was only £100 odd, so I never chased it passed that.

hehe

Read the cycling forums that pop up every now and again, there really isn't any road tax apparently.

Now then, no need to be like that. Perhaps he's awfully posh (and gets his coal delivered in sex).
