Well if I can't have Range Rover I'm going to go with my old Volvo V70R, which was superb in every way (apart from fuel consumption)

Alpina B8 Touring, although the RS2 is worth a shout too

From that French era - the Renault 4, 16TS, Peugeot 404/504 Estate
Bit later than that! It was a 305 GR, then a 21 Savanna GTS, then a 405 GRD (my favourite) and then a ZX 1.9D "Elation" (but I think he would have preferred a Xantia Estate).

I'd go for the 850R - not only a hugely practical estate but was used in the BTCC. (Well, not sure if that was the 'R' or not!) Ultra cool.
BTCC cars were 2ltr so not even T5s.

I think my Classic Impreza Turbo Wagon is a phenomenal all-rounder, especially for what I paid. I even think its looks (in standard form) are rather under-rated.

2004 era V70 T5 would get my vote, from personal experience.

Comfortable seats, good ride, pretty brisk, big load area and effortless cruising. If you want more go, a remap gives you nearly 300hp comfortably.

Or a V70R of the same era. Already 300hp and has 4WD, adjustable suspension and, if you like it, turquoise paint...

BMW E39 530i sport* or S211 E350 Avantgarde.

Merc probably nudges it for me as even today the interior feels spot on and the load capacity is so much more usable than the BMW.

  • Alpina B10 3.3 Probably even sweeter?

Not a nomination (see point number 4 in the OP) but would the Ferrari FF be considered as an estate car? I would argue that this is better i.e. faster, better-looking than the 456 Venice.

Boring name though!

Only Ferrari I have ever really wanted.

I was looking at a dark grey one with beige leather in the Cavendish Square car park the other day. Looked so cool.

Estate?

Fastest? No. Most toys? No. Best estate? Pretty much.

Yes, but....... Costs.

Above 17.2 mpg is, well very rare.

FF is lovely but costs, the Venice to my eyes looks horrible, I would go for an RS2 or the E39.
