Should 'muck' EVER come out of the output side?

I am trying to sort out a possible fuel issue and removed the fuel filter. I then gave it a shake and emptied it - lots of muck coming out

I then refitted it with the output pipe off and cycled the ignition to check for fuel, and get clean fuel coming out again

THis took a few cycles to get clean fuel through

Should it be possible for dirty fuel to get through a filer in this way, or has the filter broken down?

Thanks

No.

Possibly. Cut it open and have a look.

You sure you've got it the right way round?

He he - OK, so no absolutes

Deffo correct on right way round - 'IN' & 'Out' stamped on the top and the pipes are bent in such a way to exclude that

I'm thinking of putting injector fluid into the new filter and starting the motor for a few seconds and then leaving overnight hoping to clear out any crud from the injectors

I will cut open the old filter too which I still have

Difficlut to tell if the inner has broken up after cutting it open - it all looks quite fully
