I was swaying towards the Navara due to the big increase in power but had been put off a bit by the apparent lack of reliability, but on further reading it appears that the models from 2012 are much improved? I like the look of the Ranger but the engine does puts me off, on paper a 3.2 5cyl has a bit of potential but every time I hear a Transit go past I just know that's how it would sound!
Except transits are a 4cyl 2.2 .

The Amarok is nice and wide, but struggles with heavy towing from what I have read
Because they only supply a 2.0l TDI I think they are a bit down on power. For the money you could get a Australian Designed, South African 3.2l TDI Wildtrack Ranger for about the same money.

True, but in my experience every diesel Ford ends up sounding like a Transit.

Will try and get out this weekend to at least have a look at the alternatives, whether they actually have one to test drive will be another matter!

Hello sweetheart wavey

I'm just back from Malaysia, where I was smoking a boggo Ranger (2.2 TDI). I have to say, I loved it! Sure, it wouldn't pull a cat off a glass table (hopefully the 3.2 remedies this), but it was a surprisingly nice place to be and very car like to drive. Handling, believe it or not, was superb!

Btw, ping me your mobile no. I aint got it on my current phone.

Well, fundamentally the 5 cylinder 3.2 will sound different, simply due to the extra cylinder.

Although I believe ford does offer the 3.2 in the transit as well.

The Amarok Highline actually looks like a rather pleasant place to be.

Spec the sat nav and it's similar levels of comfort and equipment to my CC. But £30k+ seems a bit much.

my brother in law has had several Dodge Rams over the years as his company run about,
plenty of space with all the toys, large bed with a hi top roof and great for towing

If your company is paying for fuel I would be looking at the American pickup trucks.

Far better than the Euro or Jap efforts

LHD would appeal if I was doing a lot of Euro trips, sadly I won't so would need something RHD, and that rules of the yank tanks. Which is a shame as I really like the look of the US Style Ford stuff!

A shame as they really do ride very well on the motorway (considering that's where most of them spend their time in Americaland)

In terms of autos and towing, I think the Amaroks use a DSG auto rather than a "proper" torque converter type. The disadvantage being there are clutches in the DSG that will wear faster under the extra loading of towing - whereas at worst a torque converter auto would need the fluid replacing a little more frequently.

I drive a 2.2 Transit Custom at work and it's very quiet indeed.
