I think it's unfair that everyone has to pay the congestion charge.

You should be allowed xx free journeys in a month - Like if you only go to london a few times a year, why should you have to pay towards the 'congestion' that is mostly buses, lorries and fking addison Lee people carriers?

I get 'you are not stuck in traffic, you ARE traffic' but to charge someone the same as someone that is regularly congesting london is a bit much.

in other news, my friend found out to his cost what the 'low emissions zone (LEZ)' is all about.

£500 fine, PER DAY for driving an old van (2004 transit 3.6 ton) into london. Sorry, when i say london i mean ROMFORD. yes, the LEZ starts at romford.
Not everyone has to pay. After all, hybrids and electric cars are free since they don't cause any congestion......

Surely it would be the vehicles themselves which cause congestion, no matter what type they are or how they are powered, petrol, diesel, hybrid, all electric. Emission types can vary with the fuel, but heavy vehicles which are used in the stop start mode all day particularly if powered by older technology diesel engines must surely be one of the most polluting types.

Of course they cause congestion? Every vehicle on the road contribute to congestion, think you meant something else....

Wrong sort of parrots. Those are Amazonian parrots, we have Indian ones. They cause less congestion.

I was wondering why The Sun newspaper (yes realise that's an oxymoron) was so solidly behind this diesel bashing. Turns out the new editor is a very keen cyclist. Well well.

Why would a cyclist have a particular problem with diesels? Apart from them being stinky and unpleasant to be behind, I suppose, but that applies just as much to anyone who walks down the street.

slightly off topic but...

Particularly this quote- "Another benefit of diesel engines is they reach their most efficient operating temperature in about half the time of a petrol unit"

What an idiot. You missed the end off that sentance btw
"Another benefit of diesel engines is they reach their most efficient operating temperature in about half the time of a petrol unit so emit less carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and lead".

Finally we have transmutation. Just it appears from black gold to lead rather than the alchemists preferred lead to gold...

The other quote that got me "CO2 is bad for the ozone layer", just goes to show you don't have to do well at school to be successful.

Jesus wept. This is what now passes for journalism is it?
