Hi I am after some advice, last month some thieving little to##er decided to take my Westfield and trailer from the front of my house the trailer has been found but car has left this planet. Any way I feel like I have lost a limb, so have been looking for a cheap replacement to have a little fun with till I can afford another Westfield, to get to the point my friend told me that the Clio 172 is a fantastic car and also cheap to have fun with although the drive is at the wrong end and most seemed to be boy raced has any one had any experience or recommend anything else many thanks Tim

MX5 or MR2 - cheap, reliable, drive at the right end, and heaps of fun!

MX5 if you want RWD, Clio if you want FWD assuming cost is you biggest concern.

Get an early mk1 mx-5 with the 1.8 and an LSD. Cheap as chips and simple to work on. Happily scratch the itch until you buy another westfield.

Don't expect quite the same experience though...

Three cars came straight into my mind when I read the titale, two have already been mentioned (172 & MX5), just leaving the 328i E36.

Mk3 mr2, less rusty, more efficient and sharper to drive than the equivalent mx5 ;-) (smaller boot tho!)

I bought a clio 172 to use as a track car this year as the GT86 was picking up a few stone chips as others fling gravel at me. Its a great little car, quick enough, makes the right noises, dances on its toes and I only paid £850 for it. £125 for some ferrodo racing pads, £40 for a driveshaft and next to nothing for a service. I'm happy with it and a few others run them on track too up here.

Go for a MX-5 powered Westfield. That's what I'm building at the moment smile

If you're handy with the spanners you can build a MR2 running the Celica 190 2zz engine for very little. Mine owes me barely over a grand.
