Who else detests parking?
Discussion
Always hated it. I would never consider buying a house without a drive purely for the fact that I hate street parking. I go to extreme lengths to avoid the dreaded park in a busy area scenario:
- I walk my kid to School but if its driving rain then I will still park half a mile from the School rather than face the hassle of competing for spaces.
- I will park half a mile from the busy Supermarket if there is even a hint that it could be busy.
- I park at the very, very end of the Gym where no one else would bother to venture.
- Will very rarely parallel park, just too much hassle.
I can do it if I have to, so it's not lack of skills, but I really, really hate it and I am not sure why.
Who's with me?

I don't like parallel parking.
Mostly because its very very very rare that I have to do it. Maybe twice a year?
I do quite like parking in bays though, even tight ones because I'm good at that. My old works car park was very tight and as my hours were from 9:30 I'd miss all the easy spots so I got *really* good at parking it.
I used to put my old mk2 mondeo estate in spaces much smaller cars wouldn't even attempt.

Not me.
- I drive my kid to School just so I can parallel park outside it and demonstrate my prowess. Even on Saturday and Sunday.
- I will drive anywhere within 100 miles of my home, seeking out the busiest supermarket car parks. I don't even go there to buy groceries.
- I park at the very, very front of the gym, in the stupidest space I can find. I usually do 5 sets of 6 parking reps just to prove a point. I'll usually keep a protein shake in the car for post-parking.
- Will always parallel park, even into a parking bay that you can't parallel park into.

I am not a big bloke and I don't drive a big car (Golf) but I struggle to get in and out of my car when parking next to other cars, I wonder how some bigger, less mobile people manage it? I would of course be mortified if my car door marked someone else's car.
Maybe this is part of the problem, the anxiety induced by having my pride and joy at the mercy of other people extracting themselves from their cars? I am still haunted by the 15 year old memory of my not 5 day old Sports car bearing the marks of a car door viciously smashed into its side at a supermarket. (must have been done on purpose as I would be hard pressed to make the kind of mark unless I used all my force)

I used to think I couldn't park - I've had my 'parking' mistaken for an abandoned car more than once - but it seems I can park, I just can't be bothered ha ha.
I don't get in anyone's way by blocking drives, or making it hard to get into their own car, but I don't agonise about being 6" from the kerb or being straight, it looks ugly - but it works, like my penis.

Just park in the disabled or parent and child spaces. They are made for people just like you I with you on this one!! - I hate parking and will happily park a fair distance just to avoid the popular parking places.
If I absolutely have to go in a multi-story, I head straight for the roof where it's safer from other people.
I always park in the far corner of any car park.
All this drives the wife and kids mad...but car parking and having to wait for people trying to park just fills me with rage.
I think it's because I prefer biking where you can easily park anywhere.

I don't mind executing the actual parking manoeuvre, I do mind however leaving my car where inconsiderate bards will swing a door, push a trolley, drag a bag or have any other contact with my car.
With the OP on the park as far away as possible from anyone. In the few times I have no choice it does leave me very apprehensive about leaving it.
Sad to think that you have to worry about leaving your car because; like it or not there is a good chance some dck will damage it.

Perhaps my view is also influenced by a friend who lives in town who has a AM V8 parked in the street as he has no drive.
Practically every week he ragales us with stories of how someone had taken his space, blocked him in, hit his bumper etc etc. I also grimace every time I look at the state of his alloys.
I could not live like that; it would do my head in. If had to then I would buy a cheapo banger and carefully inspect the alloys, If one of them was unblemished I would take a brick to it so it was the same horrible state as the others - only then could I sleep soundly at night.

However I don't think he can blame anyone else about the state of his alloys though.
