Who else detests parking?

Perhaps my view is also influenced by a friend who lives in town who has a AM V8 parked in the street as he has no drive.
Practically every week he ragales us with stories of how someone had taken his space, blocked him in, hit his bumper etc etc. I also grimace every time I look at the state of his alloys.
I could not live like that; it would do my head in. If had to then I would buy a cheapo banger and carefully inspect the alloys, If one of them was unblemished I would take a brick to it so it was the same horrible state as the others - only then could I sleep soundly at night.
How can someone take "his space" on a public street? We park on the street as we have no drive and yes sometimes spaces are tight or cars parked close or you have to park slightly further down the road, but it's not that difficult.Practically every week he ragales us with stories of how someone had taken his space, blocked him in, hit his bumper etc etc. I also grimace every time I look at the state of his alloys.

I don't mind executing the actual parking manoeuvre, I do mind however leaving my car where inconsiderate bards will swing a door, push a trolley, drag a bag or have any other contact with my car.
With the OP on the park as far away as possible from anyone. In the few times I have no choice it does leave me very apprehensive about leaving it.
Sad to think that you have to worry about leaving your car because; like it or not there is a good chance some dck will damage it.
Agree with this completely. Also this is why I always have a junker at my disposal - in this case my Vectra - that I simply do not care that much about. It gets supermarket dings - my Boxster doesn't.With the OP on the park as far away as possible from anyone. In the few times I have no choice it does leave me very apprehensive about leaving it.

If I simply must park the sports cars in public I choose my location carefully. For example: at a National Trust property or similar. One of the few places you can park you P&J in the reasonably safe knowledge it will be just fine.
Certainly agree with you about off-street parking. We looked for 3 months until we found a house in the area we wanted that had a drive.
And now we're the only house on the road (of over 100 houses) that has it, I do feel smug when I don't have to join in with their moaning about parking.

I have no issue with parking be it reversing in, parrallel or whatever approach is needed. Sometimes I find it quite rewarding slinging the car into a space and be bang in the middle first time or within a inch of the kerb without having to touch park.
What I hate about parking is that not everyone can do it, it fks me off massively that so many people who drive think it is acceptable to say they can't perform a simple reverse park or worse than that those who believe it is acceptable to lean or even less subtle just whack their doors into the car next to them

I just find it too bothersome. I have reversed a land rover and trailer down a bumpy, winding track in the dark with no problem so my skills when I can be bothered to apply them are quite fit for purpose.
I am also a dab hand at ironing a shirt, getting an exquisite shine on boots and when cleaning the fridge I will make sure I clean the back, the sides and even the bloody piping - but I will also hate every minute of doing those things.

Point taken. Perhaps the daily commute to work is just so painful at times that on completing a journey a well executed bit of parking is a small highlight.I have reversed a land rover and trailer down a bumpy, winding track in the dark with no problem so my skills when I can be bothered to apply them are quite fit for purpose.

I'm with you, I also detest parking in this country.
I hate multi-storey car parks, especially the one's with narrow entrances and 12 inch curbs around the barrier. It's almost like they're designed to wreck your wheels.
I hate parallel parking, especially on busy streets. I always seem to get some tit that just sits behind me ignoring my indicator.
I park far away from the entrance at supermarkets, where the car park is empty, but often come back to find another car parked inches from my driver's door. Why do our supermarkets insist on cramming in lots of small spaces when a third of them are always empty? Why not make all of the spaces a bit wider and fill the car park up a bit?
Why the fk do supermarkets insist on putting pointless tree planters in every other space?! The curbs on these things shorten the spaces and also damage people's wheels and front valance.
Every car I've ever owned has been damaged by someone else in a car park. It must have cost me a small fortune over the years and this is one of the reasons I never bought the super car I'd always wanted. I couldn't bare the thought of coming back to it, to either find it dinged, scraped or keyed by some chav.
Compared to somewhere like the US, UK parking spaces are a joke. In the US they make the spaces big enough for not only the car, but for people to actually open the doors and get out of that car. You could park a small bus in the spaces at Walmart. Heaven for a stressy parker like me!

I don't detest parking. I detest not being able to park. My pet hate is driving past acres of empty disabled spaces while burning a week's wages in petrol looking for a space that I'm allowed to park in.
As per the OP's comments, I wouldn't buy a house without off street parking. In fact, I wouldn't buy a house without a decent garage.

The only thing I don't like about parking, is when I have to park next to a prat who I judge they don't give a crap about their car, so they won't care about mine. So I also try and park as far away as possible so no one attempts to park near me. 9 times out of 10 I cone back to find my car surrounded and hundreds of easy spaces driven past to get where I'm parked
